well, i broke one of my own rules and bought a fish from somewhere other than LA/DD. the local lfs got this guy in today and called me. i left work and picked it up still in the shipping bag. it's a tiny bit smaller than the yellow coris that went missing when i put him in my dt but i plan to qt this quy for a long time. will probably do ttm with him but not until after the rc lounge party in a couple of weeks.

question about this guy...i didn't see him at all yesterday/last night and he is still buried in the sand today. should i leave him be and wait it out or maybe give him a gentle nudge?

I bought two of these guys and both were eating fine and sleeping in the sand at night. One disappeared for about 5 days and popped up with popeye and died. The other one is doing great and has doubled in size :)

I would try and find him if he doesn't show up later today. If something is wrong, he may not come out like mine did. The one that survived wakes up around 9am usually.

new wrasse

What other fish do you have? I wonder if there's one or more fish in particular that are discouraging the new wrasses to come out from sand.

NEVER dig up a wrasse; you'll do more harm than good.

The sand is their security blanket, for various reasons. Removing one from said security only spooks them more.

x2...my Blue Star leopard took almost three weeks to come out and then when it did it was at night for a couple days until it's internal clock got on schedule..

nice.. i had one that was doing extremely well. the one day i left the top open during an overnight tank switch it jumped. very upsetting indeed.
i really should have known as that fish would splash more than any other i've had.

ok, i'll just leave him alone. he did make a very quick appearance a little while ago but as soon as i walked toward the tank, he dove back into the sand.

since i know he's still alive and seemingly ok, should i be putting any food in the tank?

Food is what many times brings shy fish out.

I agree. Also, they may still be jet lagged from moving to this time zone (I am not kidding you)
