Howdy fellow reefers! I just purchased my first Maxima a few weeks ago. I tried to do as much research on clams before getting one but still don't understand one thing, their foot..... I can't seem to get this little guy to grab onto anything, tried sand, rock, both together. I prop it up on the rock and by morning it has tipped over. Has anyone out there had the same issues?? If so, what was the remedy??:hmm2:

Clams will set their byssus when they are comfortable in the environemnet. If there is something not to his liking (ie- flow, light, etc) , he wont attach. Some species dont attach as much as other species. Maximas usually do. Try placing a small rock or whatever under the clam on the sandbed. You can even place this in a small plastic bowl to "contain" the clam. This might illicit the clam to attach, and then, you can slwoly move the rock and clam to your desired location. Nothing abnormal.

if you partially bury the piece of rock you can use some sand to prop the clam up until he attaches. the problem with just setting them on a piece of rock is when they turn or move they usually fall over. the sand will help keep him upright if he decides to to turn or move.

Ok, a week has passed & still no luck on this little bugger!!!! One of my clams has attached but the other is being stubborn. Also, I am noticing the one clam that has attached is turning slightly, do they move when they want????

When i placed mine in the tank , it kind of shifted/rotated around for awhile until he found a spot he liked. Hasn't moved since
