Ive been wanting a blenny in my reef for a few months now but have been completely undecided on which one to get. I used to impulse buy back when i first got into the hobby and i ended up with a bunch of fish that either werent compatible with the coral i wanted or that i just flat out didnt end up liking. Well over the last two years ive become very picky about what goes into my tank, hence why its taken me months to choose a blenny. Well i finally decided on a starry blenny a few weeks ago and finally came across one at my lfs today. After only a few hours in my tank hes already become my favorite fish to watch, unbelievable amount of personality!! So here he is.....

Thanks guys, its been very interesting watching it. And it ate frozen and pellets today so +1 to that. I think i wanna figure out the sex and get it a mate. Any ideas how to tell?

Starry's are awesome! Had one for the past 4 years in my tanks. Yes, they have a ton of personality. I'd be interested to see if you could sex them, so I'm following along. But it may be difficult to breed them, since they seem to attack anything that looks like them IME. I added a pearly jaw and within a day or so, my starry had destroyed it. But I have seen several coexist in the same tank when I worked at a LFS. Maybe if you add them at the same time? Enjoy yours!

Wow. Our stories are almost identical. I love my Starry Blenny. He will gladly go head to head with my triggers at feeding time. He eats ANYTHING!!!

Well, he did kill my jawfish, and is now going after my sand sifting goby for some reason. I guess the long, body structure, or something...

Either way, Beautiful Fish OP. Definetely one of my favorite personalities to watch in the tank as well!!!

Great fish. Those antennae or whatever they are always remind of Wil-E Coyote thinking of a roasted roadrunner with the little hats on the end of the drumsticks.

Thanks for the replies guys. I love him hes awesome. Im having a really hard time with the sexing thing. Ive read a few different places that agree that its two spines near the anal fin that distinguish the m from f but ive had another tell me it has to do with the two "antenna" above the eyes and another suggest there are no physical traits that define either. Im going to keep looking for answers but in the mean time im going to enjoy watching this little fella. He absolutely houses any algae that gets on the rocks and when hes full with a big fat belly he perches himself on a rock and sticks his head up high and shows off lol

My old Benny was like the sheriff of my tank. He would always split up fighting fish and always sat in the same spot on the rock... Just checking things out :)

I recently added a sailfin or algea blenny to my tank. I had also been wanted a blenny of some sort and this was a good sized one that had been at the store for awhile. Fat and happy, eats prepared foods and algea from the rocks and glass. I fins him very entertaining to watch.
