I used the IMG button to insert them and for some reason that is how it turned out.. figured it was a problem with the site..

It is definety a problem with that site--the owner goes out of his way to completely censor and control all use on his site

Many a reefer has been banned from that site for just not agreeing to his dictatorial principals
including me--LOL

go to www.photobucket.com and make up and album--its free

upload your pictures there
under each pic will be four codes
copy and paste the fourth code the "img" code into your posts here

Thanks Cap.. I got in trouble yesterday on THAT site.. I posted an extensive thread on how to Breed mandarins, wean them off of live food, etc.. I referenced an article and site and my thread got deleted.. it was very good and important info.. unfortunately

Ok.. I have just bought a 40 gallon tank for a sump.. just waiting for my Skimmer to arrive and I will start to get some more progress..

I want to have 2 Yellowhead Jawfish in my tank and they need to burrow.. I was thinking approximately 4 inches for a sandbed.. or even having it deeper in the back then the front so I could do maybe 6 inches in the back and 3 in the front.. any thoughts on this?

It might be hard to keep it like that as it will get moved around by the critters and life in the tank. I would just do a 4-5 inch sand bed all the way around.

I got a number of older aquariums for FREE. 3 20-30 gallon tanks, 2 40 gallon, and 1 45 gallon long tank. I am going to use one as a sump.. one as a seperate refugium.. and another as my acclimation/ quarantine tank etc

I may also start a freshwater tank just because..

Can anyone tell me what kind of silicone to use to reseal them? A couple of them need to be resealed.

I got some aquarium safe silicone and ordered my baffles today.. hopefully they will be cut and ready to go in the next couple of days. I also ordered a Phosban 150 reactor and Phosban media. I will run it in the return area of my sump with carbon and Phosban.

I built my Sump yesterday. Stripped the old tank of it's old silicone and cleaned it (took 2 hours). I then resealed it and siliconed the baffles into place.

Here is a diagram of how it will be set up. The intake portion will house the skimmer. The optimal water level according to the manufacturer is 8 inches for the skimmer to be submerged. I wanted my water level to be approx 12 inches for the Refugium and return section. I made the water level in the skimmer section 12 inches as well and I will have it sitting on a 4 inch platform which i will create using PVC pipe.

The water then will go through the bubble trap into my Refugium . I will likely have a 1-2 inch sand bed with live rock and cheato (Notice the fantastic coraline growth on the live rocks in the photo).

The water will then make it's way into the return section. This is where it will meet the Phosban 150 and the Mag 7 return pump.

Feel free to make any comments about my diagram. It is already built and I will test it tomorrow to see if I fudged it up or not. The silicone job looked pretty good tho (in my newb opinion)

Any chance you could post the article and site here? (I won't tell anyone I promise!)

I would suggest putting a bubble trap after the fuge section and before the return. a simple slanted baffle about 1/2 inch off the bottom and sloped to the right would work well and keep bubbles out of the return section. otherwise, looks great!

I will create the thread on here and post a link in my next message. I believe I might have a watered down version of it saved.

Ok, soooooooooooo... my tank, Sump , skimmer, phosban reactor, etc are all up and running! I filled the tank and mixed the salt right in it with the Koralia's running. After 2 days.. the water went cloudy and there is a white residue everywhere in the tank. It has been approximately 4 days and it has not yet cleared up. I just got my skimmer running yesterday so I don't know if that will help clear things up or not.

Any advice would be GREAT. There is only sand in the tank at this point. No rocks or fishes, etc..

Looks good nall now on to the testing and waiting. With the rock from an established system the cycle shouldn't take too terribly long. Do you have a magnetic scraper yet? If not just wipe the residue away with an algae pad and place the rocks in when your temp and salinity are where you want them. It's good that you have the reactors running especially if the previous owner had an algae problem. The rocks can leach phosphates out for a while.

P.S. We'd love to see some pics, even if its half discernible cell phone shots.

Great put I would run the phosban reactor on the skimmer side of the fuge--you want an untreated copopod laden water being return to the tank.

add your live rock to help cycle your tank
