nikon D5000 for reef pics?

my wife wants to get a nice camera to take pics of our family and everyday use but i also want to be able to take pictures
of my reef tank i dont know much about cameras and from some suggestion im thinking about getting the Nikon D5000 has any one have have any experience with this camera ? would it allow me to take great pic of the tank? i attached a link to where in thinking of getting this camera . im clueless when it cames to cameras so all help is welcome thank you mario

I have a D60 and it works just fine for aquarium photography. Keep in mind that you'll want a good (possibly macro) lens, and that the lens will likely add more to your photos than the camera body.

I was looking at a good Nikon VR macro lens, which runs about $800 =\.

so the 2 lens that come with that link are not going to be good for reef pics?

I'm not a photography guru, and I just use my stock 18-55 lens for my photos - and they come out ok. Nothing super fancy.

It's a great camera, and you'll be able to get good photos using the stock equipment. You might want to get a macro lens if you want really nice photos though - and also an acrylic box so you can take photos without glass or water surface disturbance.

Until you get a macro lens, I'm sure the stock lens would work.

The kit lenses should be fine for basic stuff. If you want good close ups invest in a macro lens. I have not used the d5000 yet, but own a d700. Nikon is quality and a DSLR gives you lots of options

Thats alot of stuff they are throwing in for that price
You might want to do a little research on your ebay seller outside their online seller rating.

I would recommend adoram.com,cametacamera.com or bandhphoto.com. I have bought cameras or lenses from all of these places and never had problems.


Just so you know the 52mm wide angle and the 52mm 2x telephoto lens are not really lenses-they are filters that screw on the front of lenses
