Are Mantis cannabilistic? I know the tank is too tiny for 2, but since Agu & Chad seem to be knowledgeable about it, I'm curious.

Wendy,
Agu probably knows more about it but what I have heard is that you need to have a large tank or buy a mated pair; otherwise one mantis will likely end up killing the other...

thats awesome, i love the sound of a hermits shell being snapped in two. this thing is awesome, dude, i wish i had the brains to have come up with an awesome original idea like your cube. i love the "bare" look. makes it look kinda like any 5 year old could go grab a betta bowl and start a reef.

Ben,
Thanks a lot for the compliment bro. The only reason that I came up with the filter mod and hidden plumbing is because I was trying to do exactly what you described - make the tank look like it magically ran itself...

looking good man! you put my 12" cube to shame! heaters inside the tank, got an aquaclear 200 hanging on the back and a diy frag holder(to many corals not enough space) looks pretty dodgy. but i guess it works. heres a link to my tank http://www.masa.asn.au/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=108543

I really like the open top look thats what i am going for with my next freshwater tank.

i was only 15 when i started the 7.5g so i didn't have the money for a 70watt halide i diyed s 15watt 6400k energy saver bulbs which seems to have worked well, that and i moved to australia in 2003 where i setup the tank and were so behind in reef tank equitment like decent nano lighting.

i hope my 50gallon i am setting up(eventually i am trying to get good equitment, 250watt metal halide :D) looks half as good as your 12" cube.

also an idea maybe hide that ugly bulk head with a couple small peices of live rock and some nice coloured zoos.

Cheers

Andrew

Andrew,
Thanks buddy. I tried to check out your thread but it asked me to log in before I could. You should start a thread here.

more pictures!!!

I really like your aquarium man, I want something similar on my office desk but with corals and maybe a banded shrimp only.

What are you going to do with the original mini cube?

Kevin

Update:

I finally moved the tank over to its proper spot. It looks a lot better now that you can see all the way around it.

What do you think?

Hey Chad,

I've been waiting for an update ;) . Looks good

Did you build a base around the bottom to accomodate the bulkhead ? Looks like you just propped it up on spacers .

Didn't I say at the beggining of the thread that no matter what sustrate it was gonna turn out great? The tank looks amazing, great job!!!

Agu,
Good eye. Actually, I got tired of putting the move off until I built a suitable base so... the tank is sitting on 5 hockey pucks  (one in each corner and one in the middle)
I kinda like the 'floating' look and the ability to clean under the tank but I realize that I should brace the entire bottom of the tank... the bottom pane of glass is 1/2" think though. What do you think?

Thanks bro! Im filming now for the next video too

.....the tank is sitting on 5 hockey pucks.......

Done like a true canadian  .

Half inch is way thicker than substantially larger tanks. Most glass tanks have only edge support to limit competing pressure on the bottom glass. You should be OK but if the bottom cracks don't blame me................. ;)

Agu,
Haha I knew that was coming. Believe me, I tried to find another material but I just couldn't find anything else that was the right size... or as plentiful...
