Nitrate NO2 levels rising

I tested my tank chemistry last night and my Nitrate NO2 was higher than normal. It was 0.25ppm. Is this a lot or just a small amount that I shouldn't really worry about? If there is some action that needs to be taken what exactly should I do?

Do you mean nitrate (NO3-) or nitrite (NO2-). If it's nitrate it's a non issue. If it's nitrite then you might be seeing a mini-cycle. Have you made any changes to the aquarium lately?

Its Nitrate NO2

I have added a sump tank recently but its not operating all the time yet. I'm waiting until I get a auto top off float switch to plug my sump return pump into as a fail safe against flooding before I run the whole system all the time.

NO2 is Nitrite.
NO3 is Nitrate.

.25 Nitrate (NO3) is not that big of a deal. .25 nitrite (NO2) is a problem.

I'm still confused about which you're seeing, but I would ignore it, in either case. Nitrite isn't toxic in our systems, and it shouldn't be a problem at 0.25 ppm, IME.

I agree. I wouldn't waste my time trying to track down an explanation. It is probably testing error, but even if not it is no concern at all. :)
