Hi, i am looking to reducing my nitrates which are at or over 100ppm. I am transfering over from a 240 to a 300 gal and would like to know if using nu clear filters will help and what kind of filters to put in them and if using an additive called Nitrate Eliminator aka AZNO3 which claims it can lower nitrate from 100ppm to nearly zero. has anyone tried this? what tips or tricks do u have for lowering nitrates? i also have over 400lbs of liverock and 200lbs of livesand.

Vodka.

Sulphur Nitrate Reactor.

Deep Sand Bed.

I just don't believe in an additive for nitrate reduction. If you need a quick fix then sure, it might work but I've seen many threads on it and it's not a magic wand. Vodka works, it just takes time to build up to the level good for your tank. And with a 300g it will take months.

I use a Sulphur Denitrator and it works but it also took a LONG time to take effect. The bacteria takes time to colonise in the sulphur and the bigger the tank the longer it will take. But it has kept my tank at 2-3 since it started working.

Deep Sand Bed (DSB) - does same job as a denitrator but again will take time. If I had the space I would use one.

I also started dosing vodka. But I would use all 3 if I could but for me the denitrator is a DSB substitute with a tiny footprint,

thx guys...so what does a sulphur denitrator look like or who sells em? how deep of sand bed do i need for a 96x24x30 tank?

I run a 180gal w/sps, three tangs 6 damsels and 6 Anthias and I had just won a hard fought battle with one Asparagopsis toxiforma. I had been told to reduce my nitrates and used AZno3 for about a month. It had been low anyway (like 5-10) but has been undetectable since (0 per Elos). I dose it daily as a preventative measure.
