Nitrates 25ppm- Vodka, sugar or vinegar?

I am guessing the whole point of ramping up is to let the colony build up so that the tank isn't OD'd on vodka?

Early on many folks dosed until the water got cloudy and then tried to back off. Thus deliberately creating a nutrient cleansing bacterial bloom which also cleansed many tanks of oxygen to support the life in them as well as rapid stressfull depletion of N and P with enhanced lighting from clearer water as another consequence. . I think the bacteria will eat the ethanol or acetic acid quickly(12 to 24 hours or less , is my guess) . Slow ramp up to an optimal dose for a particular tank is the way to go. For me the optimal level is when NO3 and PO4 hold at desired levels.
