No cheek spines???

So I've got a question. I've picked up a GSM this weekend and noticed she doesn't have cheek spines. I've done some research, but haven't come up with much. Do some GSM not have them?? If anyones asks, no, there are no signs of trauma of any kind other than a tear in her fin. I'm not sure if it's fin rot or battle scars from the prior tank she was in. She's seems happy, eating great and decided to host my anemone within the fist hour after acclimation. Anyone have any info?? Here's a pic...

Both mine don't really show spines unless they're irritated, and female is most visible.
What I find funny, is that my female has poked em out when a girl w/ red hair was close to tank, and another time when a girl was wearing a red sweater.
Anytime my hand is in tank they really pop out as well.
I'm sure yours will display them soon.
