Lets start this off with problem. I have a 40breeder that my fish keep dieing.

I have checked everything. My RO water has been checked and everything is good there. My Tank water has been checked by myself and LFS, everything comes back good.

NO Nitrates
NO Nitrites
NO Ammonia
PH 8.2
SG 1.025
OXYGEN is 8mg
no phosphates

Tank:

40breeder
30gal sump
3 filter socks
Eshoops skimmer
Mag 5 return pump
Stealth Heater
MP10
6 bulb TEK
BRS dual media carbon and GFO

My tank has been going slowly down hill the past month. ANy Fish that I put in the system drops dead after hours up to a couple of days. I am pulling my hair out. It is a softy tank with Mushrooms, Zoos, Kenya Tree, Zenia, and one Bubble Tip Anemone,,,, Mushrooms are detacting and are everywhere in tank. Zoos don't open, Kenya and Zenia are melting. I dose Iodine and mag. Bubble Tip seems to be doing fine. HELP
 
Man that sucks. Lots of people have had problems with their Stealth heaters. You might want to check to make sure it isn't causing the problem. Good luck
 
Yeah I thought that it was the problem. I switched it out with a new one today. My tank usually stays at 80, and has all summer with no problems. The new heater is set on 76 and will see if anything changes in the next couple of days.. I might just have toupgrade a little sooner than expected. 180 here I come!

I have no idea what my iodine reading is.. I dose and have always just turned the bottle upside down for a second every other day. I did this for months with no problems. Can there be to much Iodine in system? I know my anemone and softies soak this up fast
 
IMO/E -- as long as you do regular water changes there is no need to dose iodine. The risk of an overdose is too great.

What fish do you have?
How are they dying?
How are you acclimating them?
Are they all coming from the same place?

I have only one fish left. Algae Blenny
I have lost a canary wrasse, male onyx clown ( saved the female though)
scooter blenny, manadrin.
NOTE: they have not all been in there at same time. Everything started with the die off of the manadrin (which I had for 7months)
They seem to be gasping for air and then dead. It made me wonder about oxygen exchange at surface. I made sure I had surface tension and even had oxygen level measured and was good.

I acclimate after quaritine for two weeks with a 40minute drip

They have not all came from same place, (wet thumb-male clown, all others from LFS store that are very good with there fish and I trust them as I know owner pretty good and has been around along time.

Todd I know u can help me with this as I have you seen help many others, thanks for alll your input.
 
Possibly iodine overdose. As already mentioned, there's almost no reason that you will need to do this. Plenty of people don't dose iodine and do just fine.

Aside from that... any reason why you run 3 filter socks? Have you washed them with anything that might have contaminated your system? Is there anything around that gives off fumes that might be contaminating your system?

I run 3 filter socks because of I have a Aqueon sump ( forgot which on but the biggest) It can with 3 , so thats what I have and I have just replaced them in the last month. Which was well after all this begun. My wife does burn scented candles around this time of year just cause we can't open windows. AWESOME CALL , THIS MIGHT BE THE TICKET.
 
I have the scented candle fumes on my mind. My wife went to bed about an hour ago and I threw them all in the trash. SHe is going to be upset. She has always said that she comes second to the fish tanks. Yep I guess that just proves it,ha. I am doing a water change right now and another one tomorrow, just 15gal each day
 
Never understood the hype of dosing iodine. When we need to prepare a slide, sometimes for counting rotifers or something, we will often use iodine to kill everything... Just because there is a little in seawater does not mean we need an additive for it... Plus I have also noticed myself and with other that it really negatively effects green star polyp... Not saying that is the problem just jumping on the stop the iodine dosing bandwagon.
 
Has she been burning the candles for the entire month the tank's been going downhill? Are they right by the tank? Fumes would be more from something like cleaners or air fresheners, not from scented candles, IMO. My vote's still on iodine overdose.
 
I too think it is the iodine, and would be really shocked if it was the candles. Heck, have 3 burning right now and all my fish are still alive.
 
Might want to double check salinity. I thought nine was fine but soft corals started looking bad and fish acted funny. Believe it or not, I almost lost a mushroom which I thought was indistructable. So i bought some 1.026 calibration fluid to check refratometer which was originally calibrated with distilled water. I was supprised to find out salinity was actually 1.019 not 1.025 as meter showded. I slowley raised it over 1 week and everthing improved. A lot of the refractometers are cheaply made in china and are not accurate at higher SG when calibrated with distilled water as instructions state.
