So i had my first crappy power outage that lasted for about 2 hours. I didnt see any fish on the gound when the power went back up but i guess i missed my awesome longnose hawk fish. RIP. I even stirred the water with a spoon for a while thinking it may help. guess not.

So im wondering how long a fish will last with no flow?

do not worry i have power supply and battery operated air pump on the way.

How long they may last depends on how many oxygen consumers you have in your tank, the surface to volume ratio of your tank, the temperature and of course the condition of the fish.
In general, unless you have some heavy reducing processes going on in your tank, fish should be able to last a couple of hours easily.
Corals and other sessile inverts are usually of greater concern.
The biggest issue comes with blackouts during heat waves.

ah ok thanks man.

Yea i dont know the hawkfish just didnt like it. Very sad cause he was a big hawkfish.

In San Diego one year, during the end of SUMMER, of all times... We had a power grid failure. Electricity was off for about 12 hours. Surprisingly my tank survived. I don't think 2 hours should have done your fish in, but it's possible I guess

This was about 4 years ago. I don't foresee it happening again but I was looking at a cheap 2-300$ generator on Amazon and think it would be a great investment.
