No pods?????

I have had my TBS rock in my tank for about four months now.

I have never seen any pods, never?

I hear others talking about the number of pods that came with their rock and I just shake my head.

Could I have not gotten any? That seems next to impossible. I do have two mantis shrimp in the tank and a bunch of crabs, but would they wipe out a pod population?

I doubt the mantis or crabs would wipe out the pods. I rarely see them during the day. Have you taken a close look at the rock work after lights out? A red light works a little better as it seems to spook the critters less. They will look like small clear colored fleas or vertically flattened pill bugs. I commonly see them on the encrusting sponges and hiding out in old barnacle shells.

PS I see fewer of them and less frequently since adding my angel and blennie

I've taken a close look after lights out but I haven't used the redlight yet.

I'll try that.

Thanks

Jim

Also, look on your glass. I also thought I had no pods until the other day, I had a light patch of green algae on the glass and was looking at something near the algae and lo and behold, thousands of pods! They looked like tiny white fleas on the glass!

Heck, I can't see em.

I know I have some now because I bought 3 "portions O'Pods" from Florida Pets and they are in my little fuge.

We'll see what happens with these little guys.

Contrary to popular belief, small mantis shrimp do eat pods, and not just snails, hermits, unweary dogs, cats, neighborhood children, and reef keepers sleeping in blissful ignorance in their beds. ;)

I'm sure that they do as well do the gorilla crabs. I just doubt that the attrition rate by a mantis or crabs would be enough to wipe out the pod population or prevent it from developing.

Now, if I can just get the cat to hang out a little closer to the tank :D
