I have a 400 gal reef with a 100 gal sump with miracle mud and 24h light and good algae growth (cheto, caulerpa and seagrass) though some cyanobacteria also growing, skimmer, biopellets, LED lighting, pH 8.0 (calcium reactor), 420 Ca, 9 KH. Very good flow, 2x Turbelle® stream 6255, 1x 6155, 4x Koralia 8, all alternating cycles with wave controllers, 800 gph return pump and small Koralia in sump. 10 - 15% water change with reef crystals and RODI water every week. Medium stock of fish, fed every two days (most are grazers). Good amount of live rock. Feeding corals at night 1 - 2 times per week with a mix of coral foods. Corals are placed with enough space between them.
SPS corals are growing well, especially montipora (plating and branching) but also the acros, whereas ricordia, alveopora and photosynthetic gorgonians are not.
The biggest issue is with the gorgonians, even easy to keep ones. They have quit polyp extension within days of introduction to the tank. Most of them are still alive, some for over a year, but are slowly loosing tissue mass, with branches getting narrow and only a few polyps come out from time to time with minimal extension, one gorgonian is loosing tissue with skeleton exposure. I have placed them in different intensities of currents but none seem to do better.
Alveoporas start growing well then start fading, turning pale in color and polyps not extending fully.
Ricordia, after good growth cycle where I had to remove several because of overgrowth, they start fading and stay reduced to small and pale 0,25 inch size for months.
Acans and blastomusas were growing very well with new polyps growing but then also started to fade away and now are retracting in the skeleton.
