No sand or sand bed

those r the fun ages, they're so cute and still want u around... enjoy. :) My 2 older boys r 16 & 14... we recently moved so boys can walk to school now. In the new house when I saw for the 1st time my oldest son wake himself up, made himself breakfast then walked to school I had conflicting emotions. I was so impressed and happy my boy was growing up but I was also saddened that he no longer needs my wife and I as much...

Thanks. It's a Marineland cube so came standard w 1 drain & 1 return. Thing about corner overflow is that it's deep and hard to do any cleaning w/o removing the pipes. Would think coast-to-coast is easier for maintenance while providing more surface area water flow/stirring as it drains. What don't u like about it?

1 circulation pump was plenty when I had it in previous 60G cube but thinking about adding 1 more for the bigger 93G cube. I upgraded to the 93G in April. To save $ been thinking of connecting my old Eheim canister filter to the return pump line as GFO reactor and then feed the Eheim's return portion inside the tank to stir water in dead areas where the circulation pump cannot reach.

I afraid of that time. They seem to grow faster than GHA...I totally understand you. Seems like yesterday they where babies...well, we can only enjoy them as much as we can, and teach them the best we can.

My coast to coast overflow is internal, and so I have some algae buildup underneath it. The other problem is I made a mistake and the drains are at the same height. It's supposed to be a Bean Animal, but it's just a mess...so I'm kind of planning the new tank with more care. Secondly, the height of the tank, about 50cm, makes me put my arm all the way down to the shoulder to do anything at the sand level....and I'm 1,90metres.

Other thing I'm considering is if I should keep on betting on LED in the next tank or if I should go t5 again. I was a bit cheap on the LED, and I think they weren't a good bet.

What Eheim are you planning to use? Maybe I can do the same and have a GFO reactor. I can get a second hand one real cheap around here.

:lolspin: ...Yes so true.

so r u going to get a completely new tank then, thought u were just "fixing" the current tank?... Too bad ur in Portugal as I would've sold u my 60G Deep Blue reef ready rimless cube w stand at really good price if u were nearby. my 2 older sons r around 1.9m too! I'm 1.83m on a really good hair day. LOL. The day the boys got taller than me was their happiest day.

sorry to say but can't go cheap with the lights. I'd go with LED if u can afford it bc its less elec usage & less heat plus w T5 u have to change bulbs annually or else GHA grows. This happened to me bc I was cheap to replace the bulb in a year. Ck for people getting out of the hobby around u selling their gear for cheap. That's how I always get mine.

I have Eheim Classic 2217 left over from my freshwater aquarium. It'll probably cheaper to buy used GFO reactor (no pump) than canister filter (has pump), no?

It depends on what you got. The evergrow/reefbreeders fixtures might be considered cheap, or at least budget, yet they work just fine. If you bought a mystery fixture off ebay, then maybe a problem.

Yeah...it would be nice, but it's a little far away. The transportation expenses would be something amazing lol.
My oldest checks his height very often, as he becomes closer and closer to my shoulder.

I'm always lurking around the used gear. Maybe one day I'll have luck. I do like LED, because of low, low consumption, shimmer, and not replace of the lamps.
I had a TMC reactor under my scope, but it was sold before I got it. But it seems like a good bet.

Oh and about incandescent lights...

We've got some here lol

[emoji848] don't know that one...I'll surely take a look. Have you found it on eBay? I have a Chihiros. Not that it looks bad built, poor light or something.
I'm just not sure of the correct color temperature of the LEDs they used.

That's just too funny, what a small world! I work for a small local TV station so wear many different hats, i.e. sales, business operations, FCC regulation, website etc...once in a blue moon I help with the production dept to operate studio camera (just standing there basically for count down, no panning). Years ago when my wife and I worked overseas in HK & Singapore, I worked for Star TV in programming dept.

we were thinking of taking a family trip to Europe this summer but the air fare was so expensive during the summer season decided against it. We're going to try for next year and plan ahead...they say to book air tickets 10 months in advance to get lowest fare. Want the boys to see how the rest of the world lives and open their mind to explore different culture/new things.

Yes, indeed. Some times the world feels like a real small place. You should visit Europe for sure, and specifically Portugal [emoji16]. I can give you lots of reasons to do that...eheh. When the time comes I can advise you to the good locations. I'm planning a trip to NY for quite a few years, lol. Seems like the problem is to cross the ocean.
We have 4 big tv channels here (not counting on the ones over cable tv), and I work on one those. I've made some international events over the last 18 years, who knows if you've seen one. Real small world

Will do, thanks! we were thinking of England or Spain/Portugal.
Airfares r very cheap during off-peak (when kids r in school) and 50% cheaper so u should take advantage while ur kids r young and travel during off-peak, maybe even take them out of school. At their age they're not doing much in school anyway... but at same time NYC trip w 2 yr old may be tiring. Let me know if u ever visit, can let u know where to go and where its not worth the line.

We also broadcast 4 channels over-the-air currently, mostly international programming (Eng, Korean, Chinese and Spanish). Eng channel is on cable tv also. Which international events?

Not to brag...but I would choose Portugal. Of course you can only know after you visit the 3 countries, but well, ask Madonna. Seem she's is going to buy a house here and is now on vacation in Portugal ehehe. Nice people, nice food, amazing beaches, beautiful monuments,and...good prices. Even in winter you can make good vacation here...just saying eheh.

The channel where I work is not only over the air. In fact digital terrestrial television is dying in here and television radio transmissions already died...so we're basically left with cable. But there are 4 major tv channels that where here before all this fuzz. It's basically a mess. But, we are getting there.

:lmao: yes, heard about the amazing food in Portugal and how beautiful it is from my best friend who spent a month in Spain & Portugal last year.

same here. My boys don't watch TV if they do it's to see DVR content n not live TV, instead they go to YouTube. ESPN fired 100 workers last month due to loss of cable subscribers. Landscape is changing, young people no longer depend on TV, including cable/satellite TV. :worried:

Tv is changing...who doesn't get ready for new ways to broadcast will surely be in trouble.

I'm getting a reactor next week. Planning on filing it with some carbon and resin. If the nutrients fall and nuisance algae reduce, I'll probably take down the UV. It's enormous to fit in my small cabinet. Honestly, I don't like the shape of the TMC Vecton UV, and being the 600...it's really big.

Maybe with all that and who know, the prodibio, I'll be able to keep things on a good path.

Reactor should help reduce nitrate & phosphate, just have to test water often in the beginning while tank matures & do frequent water changes. I was thinking of getting a reactor but decided to try carbon & Phosban in filter bag placed in sump, waiting for their delivery.

How r ur live rocks, have the GHA died off yet? For me as soon as I got a yellow tang, she cleaned all the rocks of GHA & red bubble algae!

I'm just getting the reactor because I found a used one at a good price. It's a TwoLittleFishies. Rare to find here in Portugal. And since it doesn't have much to fail I'll give it a try. And carbon&phosban was what I had in mind.
My chaeto doesn't show much growth. Let's see when the grow led arrives, how it will adapt.
The GHA is very slowly disappearing. Now I have Cyanobacteria that I vacuum with the WC. Trying to make more regular WC, control the water parameters and see where it goes. Hope that the reactor brings the stability that I want. Can't wait to get another coral than my lonely Xenia.

TLF reactors r good. I could never grow chaeto either. Good to hear about GHA, keep them in bin w/o light until it all disappears. I did that once while they were still in tank, kept lights off for 1 week and all went away from rocks.

I'm just a little uncertain about lights of for a bigger period of time because of the xenia...would hate to loose the one and only coral of the tank and the one that endured such privations trough time. I've thought about calling it Chuck Norris or something like that [emoji23]

Water change day and testing time...
Last tests where 3 days after wc, and today before the wc. The alkalinity dropped a lot. Is this normal in a tank with just a Xenia? Where is the alkalinity going. Could it be the Calcium pushing down the alk? I do not dose anything. I'm just guessing until I get a Calcium and pH test.
