Noisy overflow after new Core pump added

I had rather poor water flow in my75 gal reef tank. Just upgraded to a new Core pump. Hot lot's of flow now. The overflow is also quite noisy now. Here is a pic and video. What changes should I make to reduce the noise?

My noise is at the top of the drain pipe. I see durso type fitting is used on the top. I am going to pick up some parts at the Depot today and see how that works. Looks like the outside diameter of the down pipe is 1 1/2". I played with sticking a small tube (1/4") down into the drain. WHOW, that makes a BIG change to the flow. Disrupt s the flow and the overflow level rises a lot.

You are simply flowing more than the drain can properly handle..
With an inferior setup like that the drain is only quiet at low flow when there is just enough water going down it to cling to the sides of the pipe.. Once you start to flow more that water can no longer just cling to the sides and starts closing off the pipe more and sucking air down with it now and many times creates a flushing/gurgling noise,etc...

You really have 2 choices (and may need to use both)..
Convert to a durso and slow down the flowrate

Yep. An open channel will be noisy.

A durso or other standpipe quieting device will help, as mcgyvr said.

If you feel like doing some plumbing, you can convert that to a Herbie system. This would involve having both of those pipes as drains and running the return pipe over the back of the tank.

Yeah thats the 3rd choice assuming you want to redo all your plumbing to change to an over the back..
I left that one out as I felt it may be more than you wanted to tackle

Would a Maggie muffler work?

It could help but after doing a google search, it looks like a $17-$22 choice, and wait for shipping
Go to the plumbing section at your local big box store and pick up the 3 fittings you need to make a durso for probably $5-$6, and slow the flow a little.
