noisy plumbing

My tank has been up and running for about 3 months now, and just recently (as in the past two weeks), the plumbing has gotten loud from the overflow. It goes about 30 seconds noiseless, then sounds like it is sucking in air for about 10 seconds. I checked the hole I have drilled in the top of the silencer and it isn't clogged. Should I try and drill another hole in the top for more air flow? Or do I have too much air flow and that is what is causing the noises.

It's not so much a slurping noise, but sounds more like the water stops flowing, then flows, then stops, then flows.

Thanks in advance!

If it was working good before then something changed. My first thought was also that hole on the durso standpipe was clogged but since that's not it then it's something else. Maybe a snail went through the pipes and got stuck. Or it could be as simple as your sock, if you use one, is dirty and water is not flowing through and backing up in the pipes. There are many things that could be the cause but without knowing your setup and plumbing it's hard to figure out.

Be careful making bigger hole. I did this and got louder than had to put tape and make another hole actually smaller than original. I do like super glue idea.

what all you with just straight pipe overflows need to do is place a gate valve inline on the overflow line so you can adjust the flow and backpressure it to the sweet spot so you can avoid any air flow at all and the pipe will run pure 100% water and not a mixture of air and water......I am pushing over 7000gal an hour and its dead silent with 4 drains into 2 with 3 manifolds and one 24x8 fluidized sand filter....it does need a tweek here or there depending on build up over time in the pipe changing pipe sizing or right at start up as the pipes purge any air.....
