Non or Live sand???

Ive read somewhere that if you have live sand, and I need to add more, I can use non-live sand instead. Where do you get this sand?

It really depends on your definition of "live" sand. You have your prebagged "live" aragonite sand which sposedly contains the bacteria needed and you have your actual live sand from the ocean consisting of worms, pods and other goodies. Now assuming you already have a established tank with your worms, pods, bacteria and other goodies, all you need is just dry sand that has been washed... ALOT. That is of course unless you dont mind your tank looking like a cloud for awhile. As far as I know, it usually only takes about 24-48 to fully seed new "unlive"(is that even a word??) sand to active sand.

Live sand is simply sand with bacteria in it, if you buy "live samd" i na bag, with no water, and temperature control, it cant really be live!

if you haev live rock, you can use any sand, and eventually bacteria will cover it and ti will be live, buy regular, not live there is no real difference

I recently added "live" sand to my tank. I was concerned that I would get a major cloud problem, but I was careful and it was only cloudy for about a half hour.

One area that I was suprised about was the diatom bloom issue for several weeks afterwards due to the new silicate.

It worked out well and is keeping my DSB.
