i went to petsmart today because i saw a 20 gallon glass bowfront with a canopy heater and power filter for $100 last time i was there. i thought it was a good deal. i got there and saw this:

thinking this an awesome deal (was it that good? seams pretty nice ) i jumped on it and brought it home.

anyways to my question. this tank comes with a light fixture that has a single T-5 fixture and a "full spectrum" lamp. does this automagicley qualify my lighting for coral? or certain coral? or is this still the bare minimum that wont support much? thanks in advance..... also any other insight about this tank or my setup would be greatful. i also have a petco brand power head on the oposit side of the tank as the power filter.

Its good for a freshwater or saltwater fish quarantine tank.
The lighting isn't acceptable for any coral, not even close.

If you want to do it right you'll want a reaf-ready tank with overflows into a sump, skimmer, reactor, ATO, a quarantine/hospital tank, high quality/high power lights. The list goes on.

Ok first off what he listed is what most serious reefers use BUT you don't need all that to run your tank. You don't need a reef ready tank you can throw a hob over flow on it and be just fine. Ditch the hood it comes with it will do you no good. Buy a 4x 24 watt t5 fixture, aquatic life will be a good entry level fixture for you . Then yes you should get a sump and protein skimmer and a return pump . Then you'll be ready to start when you get rock and sand. If money is an issue the tank can work with a hang on filter obviously won't be the best thing but just make sure you do water changes every week and atleast get a hang on skimmer if you can't do a sump.

Coming back to this after being away for awhile and it seems like a lot has changed. I am currently in the planning stages and was just wondering by reactor do u mean a calcium reactor? and does ATO stand for Auto Top Off? Thanks
