noob question?

i just got my ro/di unit ... flushed the filters and storage tank. now im about to make some water but have some questions on how the waste water line works ... do i open the flush valve completely or just enough??? cuz when i open it completely i dont have enough pressure it drop from 50psi to like 3 psi.

The flush valve should be fully closed when producing ro/di water, completely open to, well, flush the system

so were does the waste water go. dont i need to have some go to the drain when im producing some water. isnt there a 4:1 water ratio or something like that?

Where is your water going when you flush the unit? Waste water should be going to the same spot. You only flush the thing as a means to "cleanse" the membrane. Do this every once in awhile, or if you make up alot of RO water, then before each use. I flushed mine before and after each use just to be on the safe side. I have my waste line just stuck out the window, watering my dead flower bed.

lol. watering dead flower bed.. I have it going to my drain . i have my setup under my kitchen sink. .... so i should not turn the flush valve on going out of the waste line from the RO MEM. is this correct. I should only have turned on when im going to flush it before and after every use.

exactly. It allows the water to bypass all the filters and go instead of going through the membrane, it flushes it and allows the water to pretty much "rinse' the system without "using" the filters. Then you turn it off. And allow the water to start passing through every fiter. The left over goes down the drain. Simple uh?

Your on the right track.

When you open a flush valve on an RO unit, you still have water going through each of the prefilters, and going through the body of the RO membrane. No (or not much) water passes through the semi-permeable portion of the membrane so you don't get permeate (purified water) while you flush.
