Noob with newly acquired green LTA, need help!

just picked this up yesterday from a LFS in hopes of getting my ocellaris pair to host. The problem is, it doesn't look like it did in the LFS tank... This is my first nem so probably just something I'm doing wrong. It was much more open and extended before. I performed an hour drip acclimation.

The tank has been up and running for around 4 months now. Tested parameters yesterday and everything looked good IMO. Everything else in the tank seems to be thriving.

PH: 8.2
DKH: 12
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0
Calc: 360
Mag: 1300

LTAs are a sand dwelling species, so placing it in the sand near the rock would be a good idea if possible. Though, I'd suggest leaving it to find it's own happy place. Maybe turn off the flow for a short time to let it move around and get comfortable?
 
hmm those pictures do make a convincing argument for mag.. I'm just very concerned because when I got him at the LFS he looked very different. his base was long and extended up and his tentacles were coming out more.

I guess I'm just worried he isn't doing well in my tank, what signs should I look for in a nem that isn't doing well?
 
Mags should not deflate during the day. If it's deflating during daylight or has a gaping mouth. Also if individual tentacles are flat it's a bad sign. The unfortunate thing is mags require special care when these happen. Please read the sticky about using ciprofloxacin to treat anemones.
 
I agree with the others it looks like a mag. Cichlids right if its deflating you need to do treatment on it asap

Looks great to me. Just like mine did for a while until it found a place it liked. Then grew probably 5 times its size.
 
well it doesn't appear to be trying to move. It still looks the same as it did yesterday.. it doesn't look deflated to me, just smaller than it did in the store before I bought it. I wonder if its because my tank has much more flow than the the tank it was in at the store? hmm..
 
it is also still recovering from the move to your tank and getting used to your tank. as long as it isn't deflating and the mouth is closed, things are looking good.

A healthy mag will certainly be reduced in size at night versus day, but should not 'deflate' at all. Late afternoon deflation cycle is a very bad sign IMO and will spell the send of the mag 9 times out of 10 if intervention is not taken.
 
i am very inclined to believe you have a bubble tip anemone. and judging by the pictures and video, it looks pretty good. i would expect this anemone to find a small nook in the rock soon and only expose its tentacles.
 
oh wow.. I wouldn't think it was a BTA...

I really wish I took a picture of it at the LFS before he was coerced off his rock.
 


I did a 15% waterchange last night and he is looking a bit better this morning. anyone have a definitive ID on this nem?
