Well I believe my flame angel took a few bites out of one of my favorite corals in my tank. I saw little tiny bits of it everywhere and I'm really hoping it dosnt do it because my flame angel is my favorite fish. One little note is the coral was laying on some rock thismorning and ive been a bit bussy latly so its possible it was like that for a day max but usually im looking at my tank quite a bit. What found you think happens based on the pictures below

I have no recent pic of it well but this was a few months ago I think after it was added

He would have been gone yesterday, I had a purple tang do that a couple years ago to a Wellso. well the next day he had another home free of charge.

I feel your pain... My Flame did good for almost a year and then decided to start nipping at my corals. Started with my frog spawn as well but didn't do that much damage.

Ok well I was really hoping the coral fell but i foubd it fallen again and it was once again a little smaller. I have a small mesh hang on back breeder box that I put it in till I decide what to do. Angels are really the biggest and brightest fish that can go in a 75 so Id hate to get rid of it. Then again I have hundreds of dollars in coral in there too. I think it ate a fifteen slimer acro frag to that I just got.

I hate to say this but I'd rather not lose my corals and I think it would be smart to fit rid of it. I think I could just get rid of the frogspawn but I think it would just find a new snack later on. So what do you guys think, Should I try another?

No, I would just move one from them. I want to try one oand did it was a key hole angel. Well it died and hate to say it it might have been for the best. Don't risk hundreds for 1 fish.

Falling can damage a coral quite a bit. I know a lot of people are rough with corals and they do just fine, but IME they are very fragile.

I had snail knock over a 2 head frogspawn frag overnight. One head laying on sand. Picked it up as soon as I noticed it. The head laying in the sand looked just like your second pic.

My tank was fishless at the time FYI. The damaged head came back sort of by moving over somehow and starting a new head half on the old one.

The frog spawn actualy fell like 2 in. So I doubt that would have damaged it badly. Last night it bit of a piece on montipora that was glued down. The moti is still there it just lost a quarter of it. I'll put it for sale on indmas today and Simone else had this same problem a few weeks ago on Indmas and there was lots of interest so I doubt I'll have trouble getting rid of it.

Sorry to hear about your frogspawn and I love the flame angels but I've heard about them picking at some coral! Guess it's always a hit or miss with angels... Good luck tho and hope ur coral heals well!

Well I cheered myself up by thinking of positives for example I can keep clams now. It still sucks to loose such a beautiful fish.

Ok I have the worst feeling ever right now. I don't think the flame angel did it!!!! The frog spawn was once again fallen over and a bit more missing!!! I saw less purple Monti the other day but something nipped at it so I was thinking it was loose any way so it fell of. I have snails, hermits, peppermint shrimp, cleaner shrimp and that's it. I think there is this big ugly brown crab with red eyes that I saw once. It must have been a hitchhiker or somthing. Help!!!

I did a little research and came up with this: Actaeodes tomentosus

google that and see if that matches the one in your tank. From what I can tell they are bad news that eat anything they can

I found one in my LR, and I love him. I call him my Satanic Crab, since he's black with red eyes.

Pretty smart little guy, he's pretty much hand tame right now, he'll happily accept Krill right from my hand with no hesitation. I spent about a week trying to trap him in a glass before giving up and figuring I'll just work on getting him tame enough to lure him out of his hole before I stock. He's still pretty shy about coming out of his little rock hole, I don't think I've ever seen him move more than 3" from it.

I'll probably put him in my fuge after I finish building it (separate tank positioned next to DT, ~30g). He doesn't seem all that aggressive, but I also don't trust him one bit.

Ok well I have almost no purple montipora now. What ever ate it is doing it fast so the red eyed crab would be my guess. I think ill be going crabless in that tank. I'm setting up a 20 gal tank now so I'll throw all my hermits in there and if I ever do catch the red eyed one ill send it to the sump.... Either that or the backyard, lol

When I was researching them a lot of people have had success putting some bait in a glass near their hole. Just tilt the glass so it can't get out. It's worth a shot.
