Not a fun morning!

Went to the basement (where my tank is) this morning to change over some wash and noticed my controller was powered off. The GFCI must of tripped. Walked around to my tank and all my fish were dead except 1 clown that I've had for about 3 years. It was really sad. The live clown (male) was nestled against the Female. Like an old couple that doesn't want to say goodbye to its partner in death. Most of my corals look eh. I did a 75% water change. I hoping the corals rebound.
Now to the fact that the outlet tripped. I know exactly what it is. Its when my ATI T-5 lights come on. It doesn't trip very often but when it does I usually catch it. This time I had not been in the basement for at least 24hrs. I've done a bunch of Google searches and it seems that some people blame the ballasts and some people say that even after changing the ballasts it still happens. The outlet is only a year old I doubt the outlet went bad but I guess its worth changing it out.

Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks
Dave

sorry to hear, but thats the reason I don't use a controller to control everything..if it fails, for whatever reason, everything goes down with it.... My lights, MH and T5s are on their own GFI outlet with timers and sometimes they trip it, but it's only the lights everything else, pumps, heaters, reactors etc.. aren't effected....may think about running them on their own if they're prone to tripping...

Sorry to hear about your loss. Sucks. What I use is a battery backup ps for a computer rated at 1500w. I have my wave maker and a small heater attached to it. If the power goes out it will last approx. 5-6 hrs. The good thing about it is when the power goes out you get an audible tone from the power supply indicating you are on battery. Good luck Greg

Thanks Guys.

I think it was a combo of lack of oxygen and temp. When I powered it back up it was a 64 degrees. Turned it off and did the water change. and my air stone some how got plugged into a different outlet so it didn't sense the power outage.

Mike I've been wanting move my lights off the controller and on to its own circuit. Just haven't gotten around to it. I know what ill be doing this weekend.

Wally thanks for the idea I just ordered one. I have leak alarms now Ill have a power alarm!

I could not say it any better mike..... But I know how you fell sandy got all my coral so I know your pain :headwallblue::headwalls::thumbdown:confused:

The expansion can be used with any controller, it's the one item the not dependent on actual controller. It turns the outlets on when there is power on the trigger plug.

Seperated my lights from the controller this weekend. Time to rebuild. 3 corals (hammer, candy cane and GSP) making a turn around. Everything else is pretty much done chalice, numerous Zoe's, acan, frog spawn and a brain coral

The new Neptune Apex release has a text/email alert system whenever the controller stops phoning home.

Sorry about the losses.

You may see another thread where I'm looking for an emergency bulkhead. Due to a mistake during maintenance my controller is offline and the system keeps texting me and emailing me that something isn't right with the controller.

Its a cloud based system that the controller heart-beats into with all kinds of metrics. If the cloud doesn't hear from the controller it alarms.

Only works for power losses when you run it on a UPS with the second power supply that senses the power loss... I have this hooked up and it works well...

New to the apex world and still working on getting around to set it up, but I'm assuming the modem and router need to be on a ups also in the event of a power outage. Lol and even then pray cablevision's boosters are still powered.

The new release (going mass deployment just about now) is cloud based so you don't need anything like a UPS.

There is a server in the cloud that expects heartbeats. When the heartbeats stop, the cloud notifies you of that.
