Thanks Kat I will try my best to figure it out. Right now it's just liverock and fish in my aquarium. I have to take it day by day now and figure things out. My Xenia melted that's what scares me so I left it in there and if it starts to look better I might begin to put corals back in there.
 
Possible spawning event or bacterial bloom-one may have triggered the other or vice versa

Are you sure your prefilters are good with RODI,
 
Prefilter as in before the RO/DI setup? If so I don't have one for it. The water is directly out of the well. If you are talking about the filters for the RO/DI they are from FilterGuys and have always worked.
 
Ugh! That's terrible! Good luck getting it figured out, but if you can't I hope everything else pulls through.

OT - how are the seahorses? You've been neglecting us! OK. Maybe just me, but still . . . ;)
 
can it be stray voltage from a heater or a pump?
corals like xenia dont usually just melt like that overnight from a bacterial bloom or high DKH. Its usually chemical related ( like copper, bug spray, cleaning chemical) or electrical in my experience.

Check ALL your exquipoment, including stuff taht only turns on once in a while such as heater.
Any kids throw some pennies in there like they do in a coy pond?
 
I have checked all of my equipment everything is less than 6 months old(pumps, heaters, lighting, probes) No coins of the sort. I only have a 6 1/2 month old and she can't quite hold a penny let alone throw it up 6 feet through a canopy...lol. I will continue on the process of figuring it out. Thanks for the ideas guys/gals.

LCS-The seahorse tank is doing decent as of now. My seahorses eat mysis shrimp without an issue and it's cool hearing them it with that clicking noise because they snap at it so fast. I haven't had the chance to put up pictures but when everything cools off I will.
 
Well water RO/di is usally a little different that public water Rodi units.
I was wondering if you used a cloramine filter with your unit?Or have reason to think it wouldn't be an issue.
 
have any significant macro algae that could have gone asexual?


and to the electricity. do you have a gfi or a grounding probe?
 
Graves-The house water is put through a different system that I know nothing about. Fiance's parents house...lol. My aquarium water just runs through the basic, carbon, sediment, and DI housings.

Brandon- I got rid of half of my macroalgae about a month ago so I don't have as much anymore, maybe 5 clumps worth. I guess this still makes me a noobie still what's a gfi or grounding probe? lol
 
a GFI is a ground fault interupter, and will flip off the electricity if there is a ground fault (stray voltage or malfunction) and a grounding probe is just another safety net that u just plop in a inconspicuous place in your DT and plug into ur outlet. it only provides the ground lol dont worry. but it gets rid of any stray voltage that may leak into ur tank. i have both and wouldnt be without them. some people have differing opinions on GFI's though
 
Thanks Gary. I was about to leave to drop my corals off and I look at my tank and one of the pair of my Skunk Cleaners is dead...not his/her molt....but full body upside down right front corner of tank. I am getting so frustrated at this point. The water is now cloudy again. Only fish currently live in it and are all accounted for.

if u wanna borrow my gfi to see if it trips...then ull know theres an electrical issue. other than that. try to rip all of ur macro algae out. i think that could still be the issue. is ur macro algae white?
 
Hey thanks for calling me. Even though I was in the middle of a dirty diaper:lolspin:. As I said to you Brandon and this is new to everyone else. I am going to take down the system because it will cost too much to try to re get this going again and I don't have the funds. But with the money I may possibly get for parting out the system I plan on putting a 75 gallon in it's spot. Still a nice reef tank but this time around I will have a REAL skimmer and plan things a bit differently. So I will make a FS thread tonight. Most of the good items I plan on keeping to put in the 75.
 
So sorry I know how helpless you must feel.Wish we had an answer for you. Did you disturb the sand bad at all? Still trying to think of anything that might help so sorry if these are dumb questions :)
 
Thanks Shawna. Keep up the ideas. No the sand bed has not been moved, it's only about an inch deep. Gah, it hurts. But I guess everything happens for a reason. This is what happens sometimes when we mess with nature.
 
sorry to hear that. i know how you feel. I had an issue with a reactor fitting leaching copper and slowly killing my 200g prop system over a course of 3 months. Didnt find the issue until I parted it out.

Well it is about 3:20am. I just got out of work and went to check on my tank(the habit I have developed every night) to see if everything was alright. I looked and was wondering why my moonlights weren't on. After about 2 secs I realized that it is no longer. I drained the tank before work and it is now just a gorgeous tank with some sand in it and no water. So right then and there a tear ran down my face. After all the hustle, prepping, anxiety to get everything a new home somewhat kept my emotions at bay. That single tear was shed for all the cuts/bruises/bumps while building the canopy, the electric shocks from trying to wire wrong wires, the burns from hot halides, stinging cuts from putting my arms shoulder deep into the tank, and joy of remembering every part of it. It was a great system and I will miss it dearly. I promise you all one day I will have an enormous in-wall setup and frag corals for everyone.
