not much people know about this tank, thats weird

i got a Cadlights 22g T5 H.O set-up. i noticed that not much people have this tank or are not familiar with it on this forum. i saw the RC sponsor link they put up and read about it on Nano-reef.com, its very popular there. so i purchased one. I wanted to get something different looking and something that stands out so i chose the Cadlights as opposed to NC, Aquapods, and all of the cookie cutter style nano's. the Cad tanks really stand out. i put it in my deli as opposed to a plant and i gotta say that i am getting more customers than i did before haha.

here are my specs: 22g tank, built-in refugium, 144w T5H.O lighting, 325gph pump, blue background, open top

what corals i have in there:
frogspawn, orange sponge, metallic green mushrooms, White bubble coral, 3 flame scallops, large sea serpant star, green clove polyps, 25 lbs of fiji+tonga rock, some caulerpa. i am hoping to get a nice blue maxima clam and a montipora plate when i bump up the calcium to 450ppm.


Fish: baby yelow tang, skunk clown, 2 perculas, blue damsel, fire fish, pink anthias, 2 cleaner shrimps. i think this is all the fish i will put in there, but if you guys have any suggestions i am definitely opened to any other fish i can put in there.

i tried to post up pics of my tank here but i am having difficulties. can anyone give me a few pointers on how to put the picture on my posts? i would love to put up some pics and show you guys how my tank looks.

That's a lot of fish for a 22 gallon. i would think three would be the max.

omg that is wayyy tooo many fish! i have a pair of black percs in my 29 gallon and i dont even want to add any more. you are really compromising the health of all of your fish and corals, uhhh not too mention your water quality has got to be bad...

i tested my water on monday and everything checks out perfect. ammonia .01, nitrite 0.01, nitrate 5, calcium 360 and ph hovers around 8.2-8.4. i mean i only have 6 fish in my 22g and the water flow is real fast in my Cadlights tank. i put in there a Pura pad just in case and its very clear. is there anything else i need to check for asides from these?

i will post up some pics tomorrow once i figure out how to haha.

its weird because the store i go to say its fine, some stores tell me its ok and some stores tell me its not and over here you guys say its not.

so hard to find a good source that can tell me something concrete. look, rivenjim its funny how you are WAITING for me to write a thread saying system crash? what the heck kind of hobbyist are you?

i look for all info everywhere (web, forum,online stores and retail stores) just like most of the hobbyists do and why would you single me out cause i might have gotten some wrong advice or i disagree with you?

i looked real hard to find fish that are no bigger than 2 inches to follow that rule of 1"/per gallon of water. all together i only have 6 fishes and 10"-11" of fish. i came here looking for help and its hard to just go along with an answer without first comparing the other info i have gotten as well.

but is that necessary to say? "i hope your tank crashes"? rivenjim?

i personally wish everyone's tank does well and we can all learn to make this hobby beautiful and rewarding.

I don't think he doesn't want to listen. I think he is still learning.

And he will never learn if people bash him like that. I always say, if you don't have any good friendly advice to give..keep it to yourself.

YES that's too many fish for that size tank. Try to bring the baby yellow tang, skunk clown, fire fish, and pink anthias back to the store for a refund. Also tell the store they have ALOT to learn.

The only person that should be bashed is the sales rep at the LFS he went to. Many LFS's would sell you a $1000 shark and say its ok in a 55g with CC substrate.

Good luck with your tank jewtball, and don't get discouraged by the hardheads that think they know it all.

wow i didnt even know it was that bad, so now my second question is how do i get them out?

i looked at a fish trap that might work.

i'm never going to go back to that store on ralph ave. again.

this hobby seems like it takes more than i thought it would. it is great for relaxing esspecially during tax season when it gets crazy busy for me.

People on this site love to critize others tanks well nobody here is perfect fish bashers 2 is way to few for a 30 sissys I have 3 in my 10 gallon and guess what is has been thriving for over a year now so think before you speak people its all about how well you maintain your tank.

Dont worry about the amount of fish. Worry about your water parameters. If you dont mind doing weekly water changes, keep the extra fish in there. I would probably remove the tang and keep an eye on the rest of the fish for aggression.

Two things come to mind- first the comment about a wise man never says something can`t be done to the man that is doing it- the other is we have no size relation here. A pair of black percs could have more mass than juvies of the stuff the guy has now. That being said I don`t think more than one or two fish is ever needed for a reef tank - so I agree he has too many.

It shouldn't be that hard for you to catch the fish in that size tank. Just do some searching on the forum for 'fish trap' and you should get some good ideas of what you will need to do.

The tank sounds nice. I currently have a 180 reef and a 20g nano-reef. I was shopping around for a while looking for the perfect fit. With so many options out there its hard to choose. I'm glad you found the one that fitted your taste best.

I like your very positive and well worded response. :eek1:

Regarding the fish, IMO nothing that require immediate solution or can not be fixed in the future, just keep it in mind as the tank gets older.
Right now the fish are small and doing well; as they grow they eat more, poo more, need more swimming space and the water quality starts to suffer, be aware of the symptoms and then get ready to take some of the fish out. By now, Enjoy!

Thanks guys for the support. whew that almost scared me and i was about to go get a fish trap at the LFS.

yeah that does make a lot of sense to measure my water parameters (which i do religiously every 4 days). for 2 months everything is doing great.

i saw a good fish trap on marine depot maybe i would order it this weekend.

anybody around the NY area that can tell me a good store to go to that gives honest advice?

i hope to be able to have at least 3-4 baby size fish in there in the future. another thing, if i can easily get too much fish in the tank, can i get too much corals in my tank? how many is good or should i just stick to the rule of checking water parameters?

Corals grow even faster than fish. A small 1 inch frag can grow into a massive Colony within a year. In general try leaving at least 6 inches in between fragments, once they start getting too close to each other you will need to fragment them and welcome to the coral trade!.
Also do not put them too close to the glass panes, it is a pain to clean the glass once they get too close.

id say ditch the anthias and tang the rest should be fine. youll want to get the damsel and firefish out as soon as possible before youre tank is full of corals and its immpsosible to get them out. the tank isnt big enought for the yt or anthias so do them a favor and you and the other fish in the tank will want the fire fish and damsel gone.
