Pretty new to this, have a bta that doesn't look so good. Seemed fine for about a week or so after getting it. Ended up moving itself around the rock it came on. Then deflated, moved under another rock shelf, looks all brown and such, removed rock above it, fed all inverts , now looks bad. Any advice? Is this thing about to die? Tank is about a month and half old, 150 reef tank, Kessil 700 light and 2 ice cap gyre pwr heads.

It's brown because it's beginning to lose it's Zooxanthelle. That happens when water conditions, lighting or other factors make it unhappy. The problem may be your tank simply wasn't ready for a Nem. It's still very new. It also may have to do with the Kessil. The Kessil is great for Nems, but it may simply be unhappy for a while if it was used to T5's or MH before you put it in.

What are your water parameters? Any reason you put a Nem in a new tank?

Ok, 1-the lfs that initially filled the tank, who is not the one maintaining it, for reasons I'd rather not bring up, filled it with cycled water from his tanks in his store, sand as well. The lfs that is now assisting with maint and educating us, tested water prior to adding any additional livestock. We asked about the nem and he said it would be fine, given the water after he tested it, so that's why it's in the "œnew tank"
2- looked tons better this morning

3-Closed up around mid day, sort of had mouth open, target fed some shrimp, looked better after that as well.

Not sure of parameters though. He didn't tell us.

Just a heads up but the lfs is in the business to sell. That being said 1.5 months in a very new tank in saltwater tank cycles. At the minimum I would get a test kit for nitrates and a hydrometer.

Doesn't look very long for this world unfortunately, that being said I have brought bubble tips back when they looked like that(I had a anemone shrimp that was eating the nems tentacles)

Tons of factors could be happening here my friend, anemome are pretty finicky. BTA will tend to walk when not happy. Especially when first introduced.

Signs of distress: wandering, expelling zooxanthellae, gaping oral disc, shrinking in size, sores on feet, balled up.

The new tank and not being mature is a big one. If its your first tank, you could also not have the right salinity, temp, or other critical parameters.

Best advice, take it slower on livestock in the future would be my recommendation and research, research, research.

Takes about a year for a tank to go through its maturity phases.

It's been about a week now, any updates?

It's still alive as far as I know , it's moved again behind the rock it was on. Seems to be opened up but I still don't really see any tentacles extended. Is this normal? Or did a resident eat them?

Yes and no. It's likely a resident didn't eat them -- it's likely the Nem "ate" them. Because it's dying it is absorbing them for "food" simply because it's not getting nutrients it needs to survive.
