Maybe I missed it somewhere while reading through this whole thread, but what is the pvc cone shaped thing that rises out of the center of the vat?

Kenfused The pvc you speak of is actually an overspill that I capped off because it is not needed unless I increase my return rate.

Awesome Doug!
I wonder why the crate caused more algae? I'm sure it robbed the flow though.

If you have oil at a refrigerant fitting, its leaking gas. The gas carries oil vapor with it through the system. A telltale sign of a leak is an oily fitting that has now attracted a lot of dirt. Just like the air filter on your dirt bike:)

Tighten that sucker and get it rejuiced. Your refer friend should have a halogen leak detector. You can also pressurize the whole thing with nitrogen overnight for a leak down test. Then pull a deep vacuum on it and leave it again for a leak "up" test.
Now is the time before it gets hot.
Looking good buddy!

Thanks Chris . I think the egg-crate caused the algae because it was made of styrene. That detail hasnt been proven but I have noticed the new pvc racks just had a little diatom bloom for a day or so and its gone and on to the coraline. I have already service the chiller and its good to go;) Heres a pic of an lps Ive had for two years under sunlight only

Very nice, I really like those new racks. I never thought about the styrene being an issue I just figured it was a structure thing with all of those little voids creating problems. There is also acrylic eggcrate, but I really like what you have right now.

Thanks Brian and the impulsive1 . I took some new shots this morning right after sunup. Ive been trying to get a good pic of my rabbit fish but for over a year he has been very ellusive. This is the best I can do so far. He is however becoming less shy:D
