Now or never…my 140 gallon DSA rebuild

Well, I’ve been busy as a one-armed wallpaper hanger…I changed up some plumbing, added the power heads that flow through the rock wall, as well as a hygger wave maker. I really like the hygger, and plan to add a second one soon to have alternating flow patterns.
Also, the lighting is finally hung in place, but I just realized that I forgot to replace two of the white LEDs …as a result , the left side of the aquarium is bluer than the right side . The picture looks extremely blue. It’s not a true representation of what you see in person.

I love that rockwork.

I love that rockwork.
Thanks…it didn’t turn out exactly as I envisioned, but I guess rockwork never really does. Either way, I’ve got lots of different places to mount corals with different lighting/flow requirements. I plan on moving everything in later today

Man, that was so much fun! I just got done moving most of my QT into the display tank. Most of the hermits and snails (as well as my two fish) will remain in the QT until I feel like there’s enough to eat in the display.. meanwhile, I snapped a few pics to enjoy for later 😁

I like it👍
Thanks! I had a blast placing those corals. Trying to imagine what it would look like in the future, and finding the perfect spot for everything was the coolest thing I’ve done in a while. I can’t believe it’s been ten + years.

Here are a few more I just took with my phone directly against the glass…

Thought I’d share a few more pictures. All of the corals have opened up and seem to be very happy. I think I managed to bang up the stylophora a little bit, but it should be okay.

Should look great as they fill in
Thanks. I’ve got some others in mind, but have to find a money tree first 😂. I’ve got a couple of other items coming from KP this week. I’m trying to get the vast majority of my corals in the aquarium sooner than later while I’m being diligent about keeping pests out of the system. Later, all I’ll have to do is QT/treat the random fish I decide to add.

Found this guy prowling around in the middle of the night…also, I think a mantis shrimp may have hitchhiked in on the live rock from KP. I’ve been hearing a popping noise ever since I got it.

Nice.

More likely a pistol shrimp hitchhiker. I have one in my KP rock from 2017, never seen him but hear him every night.

Oh brother, when it rains, it pours. This has been a rough week for the aquarium. The “ ugly phase” has officially begun. Everything that isn’t nailed down is now brown 🙄. Also, one of my LED drivers decided to quit working altogether. I’ve got another one ordered, but one side of the tank is currently receiving only blue light.
As if that wasn’t enough, my hammer coral has taken a nose dive since moving into the display tank. I believe it’s just a matter of too much flow. I’ve moved it around a couple of times, but it still remained almost completely retracted. Today I tried one last attempt at finding an area with low enough flow, and I may have found a sweet spot for it. I’ve decided not to touch it again for a few days…I’ve been handling it quite a lot out of worry/concern. Having said that, it looks better now after a few hours in the new location than it has for the last few days.

My replacement driver for the LEDs should be here tomorrow. I’m really tired of looking at the aquarium when half of it looks like windex. Fortunately, the corals don’t seem to mind.
Anyway, little man decided to come out for the rare photo opportunity. Of course, he waited until I grabbed the camera to scurry away to his rock🙄
