NP biopellets and cyano

Let me start by saying that I don't know how "advanced" of a topic this is.
I just orederd the smr1 reactor and 500ml of the bp.
I have been reading accounts of cyano supposedly due to the bp, but can not seem to find an explanation of why it appears, or any prevention methods. Could someone please enlighten me?

Ya great thanks for that. Now can someone answer my question? Thanks.

Ps that's where I read the afformentioned accounts.

I'm gonna take a stab at this and fyi it's also a problem with Zeo systems.

Cyano bacteria is a very simple lifeform that will survive on the smallest amount of nutrient. So in a system that is so devoid of nutrient so as higher forms of algae cannot survive, it is able to take advantage of the situation.

There are upteen different approaches to keeping it at bay including medicated treatments, increase nutrient levels and using something like zeozyme+zeobak.

It can also occur at the other end of the nutrient scale where there is an excess of nutrient for algaes to take up.

I recently suffered very badly with it due to very low nutrient levels, increasing my feeding raised the base nutrient level slightly and bingo, it disappeared to be replaced with some bryopsis, arghh!

Take a peruse thru the zeo sections to see their advice on tackling it in ULNS situations.

Chris
