nUgZ's 40 Breeder

Here is my ORA Montipora spongodes frag and a few small polyps of Nuclear Greens.

It's sand from a fellow reefer...my boss actually. Not sure what brand it is. Came out of his 250g.

Looks great, what light fixture will you be using on the permanent phase of the tank?

Thanks. I'm still unsure, but it will probably be a T5HO fixture of some sort. I kind of like the way it looks with the single halide, but it wouldn't be the best thing for my corals.

nUgZ, here's a picture I took of an Eshopps PSK-100H on a 40 breeder (minus the pump at the bottom, but it will fit). Just so you can get an idea of size, etc. :)

How good are those skimmers? Looks like you could put a couple baffles a few inches from the side then have a large fuge.

I probably should mention that the Eshopps rep (in their RC vendor forum) advised me not to use the HOB skimmer in a sump, as problems could arise: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1774228

So, I made another inquiry because I really want to use it on my 40 breeder sump until I can get an in-sump skimmer: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1775212

I ended up deciding that I'll make one section in my sump so that the water is a constant 1" or so from the rim, run the HOB skimmer there, and hope for good performance. I'll probably run it in the fuge/chaeto section until I get an in-sump skimmer.

Thanks for the info!

Palythoa frag. They are Carolina Blue under 14k's, but under the 10k's they aren't nearly as nice. The new bulb should be coming soon...

Some Caribbean Mushrooms from the 10g.

Superman Cyphastrea frag that was growing on the bottom of the colony, out of the light. It's already starting to get some color around the edges...

Here are a couple FTS's. I'm going to be moving things around some and taking out some rock. I just don't like how much there is.

Looks nice, nUgZ! How much rock are you planning on removing? Be sure to leave enough for effective biological filtration. Also, maybe you want a tall column so you can hide the in-tank portion of a future HOB skimmer...

Thanks! No worries about the biological filtration...it's very high quality rock. I'm also not too worried about hiding all of the skimmer. This tank isn't going to be my show tank, just one for growing out colonies and frags for sale and evaluation for my 33 cube display.

Sounds good! :)
