Nutrient level in SPS tank

I am starting to stock with tank with SPS but I don't have a lot of fish yet. I am planning to slowly up the fish list. I believe my tank is currently fairly low in nutrient judging by the lack of algae. The only measurement I have so far regarding actual number is phosphate is 0.00 from my Hana Checker. I have seen numerous discussion regarding SPS turning pale in low nutrient environment due to lack of food. For those of us who still doesn't have enough fish (can't feed more), are there foods targeted for specify SPS with proven track record? I might not needed but I would like to know.
 
Get yourself some rotifer and oyster feast. Chances are you wont need it, I have 4 small fish(3chromis / midas blenny) and no issue with colors. Have roughly 20 acros and absolutely no algae. Readings of nitrates/ phos both read 0 across the board using salifert/api
 
I agree with lolgranny that you dont need to buy that stuff. i tried roti and oyster feast before and i prefer roti because oyster feast makes my skimmer go nuts.
 
btw, i only use oyster feast when i'm acclimating my sps because polyp extension during stressful transition gives me piece of mind.
 
yes, I follewed your ATB 840 thread your tank is definetly low nutrient. To get good color you would probably want to feed the acros, and there are many good choices for food like coral frenzy, coral vibrance, roti feast. I recently just put 7 anthias in my tank and have started feeding frozen food daily(Rod's, mysis, and cyclopeeze)and have seen a marked improvement in my acro color.
 
Thx everyone (especially BuckeyeTodd) for the suggestion. I will look into roti feast and oyster feast. How often do you normally feed? What's the general guidelines of feeding these foods? Like just put a few drops into the tank every night after lights out? I guess we could turn off the skimmer but probably not totally necessary?

The ATB 840 is still doing more or less the same; not much skimmate.
 
yeah, I think the atb is going to do that until you increase the bio load. I just got the atb elegance 200 Pro and it just started producing after two days of break in. I tried to order the 840, but they were back-ordered.

Honestly, you could feed as much as you want. Anything you put in that tank is going to skimmed or otherwise broken down so you don't need to worry about nutrients, so you can feed as much as you think the corals need. You could also just add fish, and let their poo become your coral food. I have struggled with color on my sps tank for a year, I took the GFO offline and started feeding more and viola my colors are looking much better in only a month
 
I was concern about just randomly putting "foods" into the tank without knowing they are being feed on or just fuel algae. Do most of these coral foods come with guidelines and how much do feed per gallon of water? Just need some baseline to get started.
 
I got the real deal frozen cyclopeeze to feed the anthias because it was like 50% protein, but the combination of frozen foods going in there daily has done wonders for all my coral coloration
 
I got myself a bottle of Roti Feast and feed a spoon. How often do you guys normally feed? Once a day? Once a week?
