Nuuze's 79G SPS Reef

Just thought I'd share some pics how my SPS Reef System is coming along.

The tank and system I bought is a 79G Elos System 120 from Jesse at Elos in Pleasanton, California who is also sponsors to Reef Central. You can view setup pics if my System 120 here on the Elos forum of RC: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=961293

I recently upgraded my lighting system to the Sfiligoi Infinity XR4 2-250w and 4-54wT5 with ACLS that Greg at Reef Geek in Southern California had for sale who is also Reef Central sponsors. You can view setup pics of my Sfiligoi lighting system here in the Lighting, Filtration & Other Equipment of RC: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=1119604

I started reefing over 10 years ago like everyone else with a tiny 20G then moved on to a 55G then an Oceanic 110G. A little over 4 years ago we found out that my wife was expecting our second child so that's when I swore I wouldn't be able to handle it and threw in the towel and called it quits and sold my entire setup to a fellow RC'er who still has the setup today. About 9 months ago guess what; I got bit by the reef bug again! Yeah, I'm still surprised and everyone I know that knew about my hobby thought I was crazy and some fellow RC'ers said "I told you; you would get back into it"!

Trying to keep it simple as I can but you know how that goes. Here's what I ended up so far.

Here's a room pic of the tank

I am currently using BLV 2-250w DE 10k Nepturion metal halides and 4-54w Sylvania Coralstar T5 bulbs that came with the fixture.

For some reason this shot came out dark.

Here are some pics of my controlling equipment. ACjr, Tunze 7095 controller to control 2 Tunze 6000's and ACLS metal halide dimmers and T5 control.

I have my JBJ 1/4 chiller set to 80 so it kicks on at 81 and off around 79. As a failover I have it plugged into my Neptune DC8 incase the chiller controller ever fails then the ACjr will shut to power off if temps fall below 77.5. Heater turns on if temps fall below 78.

Here are some top shots of the tank. I always wanted a braceless tank but could never find any local until I stumbled across the Elos forum and that when I met Jesse!

Cool Elos logo on the corner of the tank. The LED is the moonlight and light sensor from the 7095 controller. The sensor puts the controller in normal mode when lights are on and puts it to night/calm mode when the lights are off. The Sfiligoi Infinity also come with blue LED moonlights that I have coming on at night.

I love the amount of flow the Tunze pumps put out. As I always put it, they fan water across the tank, not blow.

Show Off!!! Just kiddin'... Great job on that tank, simply amazing.............................

Thanks Brian! Shhhh! Don't let my wife hear the word upgrade! :) I had to put it to her that the light fixture and chiller I just bought was future proofing! :)

Wow! Nice. That set up is amazing. Is the eggcrate for frags? Is this a 75G tank or a 120? I see your signature says 120. Very nice. How hot does that unit get? I want to go bigger. Can I ask if your electric bill is a lot?

Here's what's under the tank in the cabinet.

Elos sump, Elos NS500 skimmer w/Eheim 1250, Eheim 1260 return, Geo Kalk reactor and just added TLF Phosban.

Hi MarineGirl411,

Yes, the eggcrate is for frags I made from light diffuser from home depot and tiewraps. Those turbo snails love to bulldoze frags into the sand. It's actually a 79 gallon but Elos calls the entire setup a System 120. The 250w does put out a bit more heat but for some reason I think more of the heat comes from the T5's. I haven't seen my electric bill yet with the new lights. So far I haven't changed my photoperiod yet which is 10 hours a day.

Here's the right of my tank with halide/T5 combo

very nice and clean setup. I noticed that your tunze is facing up, does it creates more flow?

Thanks all!

onad75, I just pointed the pumps upward last Sunday testing different flow patterns. So far it causes more ripples on the water surface and more flow to the top half. I'm trying to find a sweet spot where flow will cover most of the corals, when the alternating pumps crashes flow at the middle it causes different flow patterns each time. Pretty cool effect. I have the 7095 set at interval 2 pulsing every 3 seconds with a 30 second interval and driving the pumps 30-40% at night and 40-80% during the day.

Hi Warren, How you been?! Yes, I need to get current pics of the pieces still and I'll start posting them this weekend. I met up with Hiep last week, he came by to pick up a chiller from me and we were talking and he said he knows you.

yea whats up Mike? He did tell me he bought that chiller from you and he said he saw the frags you got from me and he couldnt believe you got those from me. So I was curious to see how they turned out. Your tank looks great bro.
