Northern Valley Reefers typically runs bi-monthly meetings. There will be a few occasions that during "œoff months" the BOD or club members may organize something that may not be tentatively scheduled for the year so be on the look out for those. The BOD is really excited for what is in store for the upcoming year. Here is what the current lineup looks like for 2011! If you have any suggestions or questions please feel free to PM one of the BOD members.
Also if you haven't done so, please register on our site nvreefers.org to get the most current information emailed to you. If you are registered please make sure all of your current information on our website is up to date.
February"“ Do it Yourself Acrylic Workshop: This will be a workshop that will teach members how to work acrylic. The objective of the workshop will be the production of an acrylic "œview box" or "œcamera box" to look at your tank from the top down. There will also be a small camera tutorial for those interested. Please bring your DSLR's and Point and Shoot cameras to see if we can help each other with some quick tips and tricks.
April- Scrap Sale: This will be the first of its kind for the club. We will have a brief meeting to catch members up to speed with the club, info, meet and greet, etc. From there we will have an open parking lot where members can sell items which they may not use or just have for some odd reason. I know I sure do. Spring cleaning, sure why not:uzi: I am sure many of us have things stored that may be exactly what someone else may want. "œOne man's trash is another man's treasure"
June- Northern Valley Reefers Frag Swap: Again, another new one for the crew! This will be our first annual frag swap. Location has already been set for Salida. This is a big one for us, and I'm hoping the members of NVR are just excited as we are. We're going to try and make this the best swap possible. This is a must attend for all that keep corals. I love me a frag swap. Stay tuned for details.
August- Tank Tour/Family Day: Keeping with tradition we're going to have our annual tank tour. The spin off for this is; there will be a nice big Family Day attached to the end of the tour. We're hoping to have as many members bring their families to the tour and Family Day event. We all know that this hobby is just more then a hobby, it becomes a way of life. Sometimes we just have to show that appreciation and with the Family Day it will be nice to have everyone out for some family wholesome fun.
October-Do it Yourself LED Workshop: A fun and exciting workshop with electricity and pretty lights. Yup! Our own JoshuaG has been nice enough to help us out with an LED workshop. He will show us the basics in constructing an LED light fixture which will be really fun and exciting to watch.
December-Holiday Party and White Elephant: We will have our annual Holiday party at a member's house. If you would like to host please PM on of the BOD members.
On our off months some ideas that have been breezed by that might come into play: A day to the Bay (LFS shopping), A couple days in L.A. (LFS shopping), Going Back to Sac (LFS shopping), trip to the Steinhart Aquarium, DIY frozen fish food, DIY Fragging, Pizza and Beer night, guest speaker, bowling or pool nights. These ideas have been some un-official events for off month event s that may happen.
Details and information in regards to each event will be emailed to registered members on the club's website and will be posted here on the NVR specific forum. Information will be released as the event draws closer.
I look forward to the upcoming year and wish you and your family the best for 2011! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.
