O. scyllarus eye scrub

Recently I have become more interested in the fine structure of stomatopod setae and the diversity of uses to which they are put. An obvious place to start is the use of the first maxillipeds in cleaning. Unfortunately, the clean movements are extremely fast and make freezing the action difficult. So far this is my best attempt. The subject is a 12 cm male O. scyllarus performing a quick eye scrub.

I captured a similar photo a while ago with my large O.scyllarus, the way he has his maxilliped above his eye looks like he is "saluting" the camera....I'll have a dig for it.
