"O" to the "M" to the "G" !!!

Only millionaires buy fish like that. Let's get real.

Understanding the price of a fish is impossible when all your looking at is a stock photo of that fish and a number.

I would suggest before making such statements as to how crazy or impossible such a purchase is, that you might ask questions as to why that fish is so expensive.

Fish are not all just priced based on color and size. If you take the time to ask meaningful questions you might learn more about the hobby. Facts other than the fact that there are very expensive fish that people do buy and sell.

Now who's up for a gem tang or some deepwater angels?

You leave out interested, passionate, and dedicated.

Lots of people think marine hobbyists are "nuts" for spending hundreds and thousands of dollars on an aquarium.

It doesn't make it wrong or bad IMO.

Well in my opinion you have to be wealthy or nuts.

You can make that statement about anyone who spends more than a certain arbitrary amount on anything, depending on where your priorities are; cars, houses, food, clothes. I know people who live in small apartments and have no car who have spent this much on fish. For them, their aquariums are the big thing, and they don't care about other things that you might consider essential. That doesn't make your priorities any better or less "nuts".

Definitely.

But it makes them wealthy, which is what I said earlier.

It doesn't, as said earlier. You'd be surprised with some of the people who own some rare and expensive fish. For many it's more about the interest and having the fish than the money. Like I said earlier. I understand it likely feels like we are picking on you. I think in time you may come to appreciate these fish and their prices.

The fish in my avatar goes for $15k when it appears in the market. And no, I don't have one, but saw many in person and photographed this in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands.

As for being nuts by paying that much, I say I would rather pay that much for a fish than a wrist watch (not that I have this kind of money anyways, haha).

that is nothing compared to some Koi worth over $300,000, not to mention some arowana color morphs for over $400,000.

I actually think a Koi has sold for 2.2 million if I recall.

:fish2: Now this fish did grab my attention has beautiful color combo. Whats the name of it? I would like to research on it.

Thanks A_Z, also lets not only focus on how much these rare fishes go. I think I would be sweating bullets if I was to spend this kind of money and not be completely ready to take care of it. I mean is an animal so having a VERY expensive fish, you have to have some VERY GOOD EXPENSIVE equipment to avoid anything from going wrong. The fish can die the next day after you gotten it and BAM your money goes down the drain lol

I don't think many few thousand dollar fish just wind up dead two days later for no reason. If a fish is worth a potential 5-15k you can bet that it will get special care along the way to it's new home. It's no different for other high end "pets".

It's not getting the green chromis treatment... Most all are properly decompressed and treated for any infections or parasites that may come along.

One of my favorite 'rare' fish collectors is from right here on RC.

Chris, A.K.A ccampbell57. Here's a quote from his signature.

Rarity and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Don't ask "how much $" a fish costs but rather "how much enjoyment" will I receive from this animal.

The price is in Australian dollars. I don't know the exchange rate but it should be significantly less in U.S. currency.

Haha, it is actually more in US currency... US dollar not what it used to be.

:lolspin: its been a good year for importing from the US.

FWIW i think we are all nuts when it comes to fish keeping, we spend way too much money on it all. But then we also get way too much enjoyment out of it too. :D
