Im going to St. Croix soon, and with my new knowlage of all things reef (I have been to St. Tomas, but knew nothing of saltwater things) so it will be fun for me in a new aspect. It must have taken FOREVER for that colony to get that huge! VERY cool!

Good googity. The density is much higher in the Virgin Islands, apparently. I saw two palmata on eight dives in Cancun. Wow. I think the VI's will be our next destination.

Great shots, too. What setup did you use?

I believe it was a Canon 4## series. It was a friends camera who fortunately had a water proof case good for 10'. Unfortunately I couldn't bring it when we actually went scuba diving.

If you want to see the palmata. Go to Coki beach in St. Thomas. Its right next to coral world. You walk down the beach and snorkel on the left side of the beach. Go along the rocks to the point. They were all over and pretty large colonies. The second pic in my last post was taken there.

are those blue? Nice picture!! I got dive cert last year but only had the chance to dive in coldwater reef so far. I can't wait to dive a reef like that.

That wasn't even the reef. The reef where I went I went scuba was way more potent.

The beaches there were nice. I'd say I lucked out on where we stayed. That was the best place by far compaired to the beaches. Coki was supposed to be the best, but I think Cowpet bay and our place were much better.

I wish I had more pics of Cowpet. But there was a small leak in the case and the girl who brought the camera kinda freaked out about that. So unfortunately no pics. There was a lot of acro's, stingray, squid and various other coral at Cowpet.

Very cool pics, would be great to have more people post ocean pics as we rarely see good pics of natural diverse reefs.
Also cool to see pics,by hobbyists that know what to look for !

Those first pics are amazing!!! I want to go scubaing :)! There is a photobucket error on the rest of the pics though. I'd love to see them though.
