Some zoo's I found while snorkeling in St. Thomas. The one colony has rics surrounding it. Enjoy.

Heh, macro's were way too hard. That large colony was about 5-6' deep and the blues were 6-7' along rocks. The current was really strong and was pretty frustrating. I so wanted to scrape them off the rock and bring a bag back. Especially of the PPEs.

:eek2: :eek2: :eek2: wow!!! those are MEGA COOL! thanks so much for sharing those pictures!

man, i've never seen so many blue zoas together! (just proves how "rare" these are huh? ) i dont think the last ones are PPE (gota be purple with the green skirt). but they are some form of PE. but who knows, everything colors up better in an aquarium with some 20k lights than it was in the ocean.

what kind of collecting laws do they have out there? i think i remember something saying they arent selling any new permits, and you have to buy an existing one.

i say more pics!!! :D again, thanks for sharing!

WoW. that's a colony. A fraggers dream land. I would like to go there with Reef Junkie, Azurel, and surf . With my hammer and chisel :hammer: hammer Very nice pic'sthumbsup: thumbsup

Okay, so it may be St. Martin next time... I see large Palythoa colonies all the time, but have only seen a few zoa colonies while diving in the Caribbean, and they have been small. Those are massive.

Is that an Elkhorn just above the brain shot? Those are some interesting acros (different form than most you see).

On a side note, I have PPE's (not by Perun lineage) that came from Florida. The guy I got them from got the rock from a LFS with a ton of polyps on it almost fresh from open water. As I understand it, you can collect many soft corals (there is a list what cannot be collected) with a salt water fishing license in Florida.

I saw my first palmata in Cancun back in March. I actually saw two colonies that were close to 3' high and nicely branching. Really nice corals.

DANG......That almost makes me want to go right now.....Great pictures. Man, what we could do! I wouldn't want to be greedy, but I sure would take what would be legal and practical. Really nice...Thanks for sharing.
