Oceanic 29 gallon skimmer

I would just get the Sapphire skimmer made for the BC29 and stick it in the middle chamber if I were you. A fuge is very beneficial too but if you want to keep a fair amount of fish and corals I think the skimmer would benefit you more, plus a buddy of mine bought a hang on the back CPR AquaFuge MD and just dremeled out holes in the back of the hood to make room for the intake/outake pipes on the fuge and he loves it. If you went this way you could have a skimmer AND a fuge and really be all set!

went ahead and bought the SR3, gets here tomorrow. Found it online for 134, still dont know what the difference is between the two from my previous post.

I hope so too lol, i would have liked the Tunze but with you guys talking bout modifying and having to get an ATO, helped in my decision. I looked at ATO's and they are not cheap.

Ill be going to Tropical Fish this weekend to get my first of the clean up crew, i think my tank is ready.

I have last years model of the sapphire skimmer, the biggest problem i have with it is that it can not be disassembled to be properly cleaned.

how often do you remove it to clean it?

melanotaenia, did you use the top piece of the second chamber as a filter backer? I may have to do that and just add a bag of carbon but dont know where to put it.

I have the sr3 skimmer and everytime i run it I get tons of microbubbles that fill up the tank, how do i stop this?

How long have you had it? i have heard it takes a week or two to break in well, or adjust the cup or air that goes in it.

yeah, I used the top plate for the filter bracket, and use rubber bands to secure the poly filter pad; works pretty well.

Microbubbles are normal with a new skimmer, usually they subside in the first couple of weeks; even my Tunze had microbubble issues for the first 10-14 days before it settled in.

Make sure you talk to Jim when you go to Tropical Fish World. He knows his stuff

will do man, got to say that i am very satisfied with that store, they know their stuff, their prices are great and the customer service is always awesome. thanks again for all your help, it will help me in setting up my tank properly.

I did have one more question, what did you use to remove the false bottoms on the back chambers?

Most of the chambers just pull right out. The far right chamber was the hardest one to get out, so I cut a hole on the middle of it so I could get 2 fingers in there and pull it out. A flat head screw driver helped me grab onto the other false bottoms. I will keep on running my protein skimmer hoping that the bubbles die down soon. Do you run your protein skimmer 24/7?

run skimmer 24/7 is best, especially to get the microbubbles to go away; and ibid on the removal of the false bottoms, I basically took a pair of tweezers and yanked them out. I had to work a little more on the first chamber one to get it out

got the skimmer today, will set it up soon.

Do you guys still have the blue sponge that goes in the third compartment with the return pump?
