Oceanic 30 gallon ideas

Hello,

I'm trying to make a return to reefing. I've never had a small tank before and I'm looking to go that way.

I really like the nanocube and the aquapod but I just can't risk all the crack stories that I keep reading. Too many to discount.

Anyway, I think I'm leaning towards the 30 gallon oceanic cube.

I need some ideas on plumbing (drilled or not) pumps and lighting people are using on these. It is not like any tank I've had before and need help with ideas.

I can custom build the stand and canopy if needed. My only fear is the plumbing being perfect and as leak proof as possible. I'm not sure what people are using on these as there is little room for any sump. My last tank actually had a hose break loose and basically dump 80+ gallons out in my house. (sheetrock, carpet, baseboards, some insulation)

Let me know what ideas you all have. I want to keep softies, zoos, mushrooms, no SPS or clams so no need to worry with those.

Thanks in advance.

You should check out Oogie's tank blog over on reeftuners.com. He is putting together an awesome looking 30 gallon Oceanic cube. You should be able to get some great ideas from him. HTH

im getting a 37 oceanic (on back order), i will put a n overflow in it (non functioning) to hide the intake for my skimmer, heater and 2 mj1200's which will be inside and thru 2 holes hrilled in the side connected to 2 hydor rotating heads on the outside , my mountain of rock will sit in front of it and thereby hide most of the overflow and both mj's....i then have 2 seio 620's of which i hope to only need one for a less equiptment look...it will be lit by t5's...

You can not drill the bottom of the Oceanic 30g Cube, it is tempered glass and you can not drill it. I believe you can drill the back of the tank though.

the locals petsmart here is having a clearance sale: 30g cubes for $99 and the stands for $129!

I'm goin' to get one tomorrow for sure! VERY nice tanks.

I went by Petsmart and they were out. Petco has them for $150 so that's what I'll do. I just have to get it drilled.

Yeah it's kinda silly how expensive they are. I mean a standard 29g is like half the price of a 30g cube. Oh well I guess, like everything else, we pay top price for the 'cool factor'.

I got one at Petco for $99. I did not want to be bothered with a sump or drilling etc. I have a Remora Pro skimmer that will skim the heck out of it. It's overkill but I already have it so I'm going to use it. I just got my Coralife PCs, 96 watts. I can add another one when it's needed. I have an additional powerhead in there and a heater. That's it for me. I'm keeping it simple and just waiting for my rock to come. I will be keeping softies, shrooms and zoos only.

Trying to fit a sump under a thirty cube is a PITA. ;)

Check out my thread...buried somewhere in this forum, also check out Chrishet's "Ultimate cube thread".

Thanks for all the responses.

I've decided to go with a custom made cube instead. 24x24x20. (no longer a nano I guess) The funny thing is the price is almost the same with 2 holes and a overflow box.

This will solve several of my problems in regards to under the tank. I will not have to run plumbing behind the tank which is very nice.

I'm going to light it with a 175 metal halide w/ some PC's.

I will have the return going to a Ocean motions two way squirt in the canopy. It should work out and be the clean look I've been wanting.

Very true! Cool factor plays into alot of what we pay and what we buy!

I was having this same discussion with another reefer who was debating major skimmer types.

We concluded that we pay for a name, not necisarily super performance(while that may come with the packaoge) :D

sill 30g cubes definaltly have the COOL factor.
If it makes u happy when u look at your tank...go for it!! :D

Who are you getting to make your new cube?

You will have to post some pictures of it.

Thanks,
Chris
