OceanPure vs. Oceanic

Wanted to bump this up to see if any more people are using Ocean Pure. They carry it at a place near my work, and I'm having a hard time finding my normal Kent, so I'm considering trying it.

Can a few more people post the levels on freshly mixed Ocean Pure?

I have been Using it since posting in this Thread and Have yet to have any issues... I have gone thru approx 5 buckets and 2 boxes... All have been pretty stable between batches... Only complaint that I have Is the Bucket design sucks... Other than that no Issues... My algae issues were related to bad bulbs... There is a few people locally that are using it as well with great success...

Well I walked down to the place at lunch, and picked up a 25g bag. I'll give that a try on water change and see what the levels are like. If it's good, I'll get some more. Awesome price too. The 25g bag was only $7. The 150g bucket is only like $23!

So the bucket sucks? Doesn't seal well or something? I'll just buy the bucket and then transfer it into my old Oceanic containers.

I thought the Bucket sucks because they are Hard to open.. They seam to seal fine but I switched from Oceanic And loved their buckets... Stuff Definetly has a good price on it thats for sure... I have been happy with mine so far... Everyone else that I have talked to says that they like it as well...

The place I got it from uses it in their display and holding tanks. They have one of the most spectacular displays I've ever seen, so if it works for them, it's pretty good.

I got mine at a place called Lucky Goldfish in Oakland, CA. Only place out of the 6 LFS's I regular visit that carries it.

OK, well I got some and tested it. After mixing for 24 hours in RO/DI these are the readings I got at 1.025

Alk: 6.5 dkh
Cal: 445
Mag: 1110
pH: 8.18

The calcium and pH are good, but the alk and Mag are waaaaaaaaay to low. I'm not impressed, I'll stick with Kent.

Wierd I had just to opposite Effect.. What Salinity did you mix to?I mix mine to 35ppt on a Refractometer... Its been pretty consistent from bag to bag... My guess is that the Sg is down around 30-32ppt which is causing the Low Mg and Alk...

Like I said, 1.025. I don't understand it either, everyone gets good readings. I'm going to dump this out and try again.

Whoops didnt catch that.. Are you using a swing arm or Refract? If swing Arm I would have someone double check it with a refract

James

calibrated refractometer. one of the pricey numbers too. just made sure it was calibrated, and it's dead on.

I'm going to bump it up to 1.026 and see what that does. I can't imagine that will have a large effect. Maybe I got a bum batch.

I'm curious, all the people getting the good levels, was that from a 150g bucket? This was from a 25g bag. I'm tempted to buy a 150g bucket.

Only thing that sucks is, since I take the train to work, it's going to suck getting that heavy thing home on the train! Well, the 1/2 mile walk to the train is the hassle.

Either that or I can save myself the hassle, and have it shipped for $48.99 to my door.

Well I threw that batch out and mixed up a new one @ 1.026. We'll see how that works out. Hopefully the first mix was a fluke.

I'm interested in this too.

I'm just skeptical because I heard TAAM (same company that makes RIOs?) makes this salt.

I'm not that happy with my salt now however.. currently using reef crystals.

If it doesn't work out, I'm going to give a 50/50 Oceanic/IO Mix a try. I'll call it Instant Oceanic. :D
