Good morning Mr gone I'm following you're feed because I have two saddle back clowns which are a mated pair and I'm now on my 4th attempt at rearing the fry I have set up a 50L tank above my sump it runs from the sump until they hatch then I disconnect when fry are ready to go in I have an air stone which keeps the water air rated I'm feeding newly hatched brine and pytho (crap at spelling)just after a few tips if that's cool?I see you are having success thanks in advance have a good day😃

Hi everyone! I was wondering if I could get your opinions on our setup and what we are doing wrong.

On the night before they hatch we move their tile into a 20 long tank that has two dividers in it. The tank is painted black on all sides, including the bottom. The transfer is made using tank water from the 75g with the parents in it.

Thank you so much for your help and input, we appreciate it greatly!

where did you get those plastic scoops to catch the fish?

Small update, I've managed to lose track of the days

I built a breeding stand. All said and done the top two 25g cubes will house a breeding pair of regular ocellaris and and a breeding pair of black and whites (I don't have a set yet but am looking to grab a couple to pair up this weekend). But for now we're going to leave the current breeding pair of regular ocellaris in their 75g home because we don't want to interrupt their cycle.

That said they laid another batch of eggs on july 17th, so in a few day we'll be looking to hatch them. The current set of babies are 12 days old, we had a really strong hatch and good initial survival, but ran into an issue with the pH dropping from the amquel+ to remove the ammonia, so that was a tough lesson. There is still probably 100 of them, so still quite a bit stronger than our first batch.

Now on to the first batch. I put them in one of the 25g tanks for now. Today I transferred over half the batch, tomorrow I'll do the other half.

And here is the stand I built for them

The two 5.5g tanks are able to slide out 11" while the system is running. I figured that would be handy for cleaning the grow out tanks, plus it was fun to design :)

I just went and checked and they are starting to spread out. Also we tried to get the green carpet anemone out of the 255g peninsula for them but he was too far down, so I put a fake anemone in for them. I also put in small hammer coral frag just to see if they had any interest in that.

Assuming they are like ocellaris, if you are having trouble getting them to survive you'll want to feed rotifers for the first 7 days or so, then switch over to baby brine.

The current clutch of babies we did not do any baby brine until a couple days ago when we started seeing high losses and feed them in an attempt to avert more loss. This next batch we are going to split after they hatch, half will be raised only on TDO, the other a mixture of the two.

This is a great thread very informative

Thank you! I'm just trying to convey as much info as possible. I found it somewhat difficult to research and as with just about everything with this hobby it is very easy to second guess yourself. We had a LOT of failure before we were able to reach success and it gets frustrating and discouraging.

small update.
batch 1 on the left, batch two and three on the right. Batch four is in the 20L but ready to move, batch 5 I think the parents ate or we miscounted days, and batch 6 will hatch in a couple days.

We've learned no matter how old they are you really have to be on top of feeding them. Feed them a little bit, often. When we tried to go to twice a day we had some die and didn't realize that was the case because they looked fat and healthy but I'm pretty sure that it because I started to feed them a little bit every time I would walk by the tank and haven't had any deaths since.

RGC works just fine as a greenwater product. RotiGreen Omega works great as well. We'll have a dedicated GW product out in the APBreed line soon enough though :D

Why the change of heart since I have seen you previously post in other forums that RGC is not recommended as a greenwater product since the buffer can "adversely affect larva if not dosed properly".

Plenty of people use RGC as greenwater so it does work (I hate the oil slick it causes), but it still seems like Rotigreen Omega is superior product for greenwater purposes.

Wow great work, it's amazing the info one can find on a community forum, you've come along in leaps and bounds!! I would love to breed clowns one day :) congratulations :)
