Is that a regular bathroom tile the eggs are on? Does yours hatch on the 8th night?

My pair just did two batches. I was not able to catch anything on the second batch. Waited till one in the morning, no hatch, went to sleep, woke up at 7, all eggs gone.

I'm getting ready for the 3rd batch. If they keep their schedule, they should lay eggs tomorrow night. Maybe I should go get a tile.

this may sound dumb, but is there a "way' to get them to breed or does it just happen? i have a pair of clowns and want to make sure i am doing everything possible to get them to breed

They look fine. If the male does his job, he should remove the bad ones.
Thanks, I figured they were doing good, just wanted to make sure.

My phyto and rotifer culture, hopefully you will have enough rotifers, I hear the fry can eat alot lol.

Yes that is just a standard bathroom tile I had on hand, their 1st batch was laid on the overflow and the 2nd batch was on the rock right under the anemone. I put the tile in right after the 2nd batch hatched hopeing they would lay on it (which they did) so it will be easier to remove them.

mine have been hatching on the 8th day, wel most of them. the rest hatch on the 9th.

i'll post some pics of my rotifer culture, but for phyto I am just using the Rgcomplete.

I have found out stability and lots of small feedings help. my parameters hardly ever change much and I feed between 4-5 times throughout the day.

sence I have limited space here is my setup for now. the bbs hatcheries are on the other side of the desk, just no pic.

2 - 5 gal buckets of rotifers

fry tank

Frequent and varied diet, higher water temps (in the 80 to 82 range) will usually get them going. It will eventually happen if the fish feel safe in their environment. Mine were together for the better part of 3 years before they did anything and after the 9th batch or so the male jumped out. I've since put another male, but he is really young (about 1 year old), so it will be at least another year before anything happens again. My female is well over 8 years old already.

They look good. Mine just started to lay eggs about three weeks ago, just laid batch 3 last night. Seem to lay eggs about every 12 days and hatch 10 days later. They have been together for 3 years now.

I started using a 5gal bucket and changed to two clear one gallon jugs. I like being able to see the rotifer density before splitting. I find the two containers do not grow/multiply at the same rate.

I use a reusable coffee filter as rotifer sieve. I did not want to spend too much on this since I'm just trying this out for fun. Like that $40 fry catcher, it's a little bit over the top for me, that's why I like the bathroom tile idea. My clowns laid their 3rd batch yesterday (on the tank glass, I'll add a tile on the next batch).

If you take out the tile and move it to fry tank on 8th night and it does not hatch, do you move it back or just leave it in the fry tank till it hatch?

the tile was my last hope, ordered a fry catcher about a month ago but he is behind schedule and I still haven't got it lol, but those are all great ideas you are using and should work fine.

when I place the tile in the fry tank I will have it leaned up against the glass with an airwand under it to keep the eggs moving, if they don't hatch that day I will prob. just leave it in there.

Were you told 10 days wait when you ordered? I contacted him a few days ago, I was told its 10 days wait.

I'm just going to build one out of 2liter bottle like the original idea.

total cost will probably be less than $5 plus air pump vs $41.50 and the wait.

your clown eggs are looking nice.

I am trying to keep up with your time line and I believe today is day 6 for your eggs. If that is the case you have another day or two to go. My eggs look like that about two days before and they hatch on day 8 with a water temp of 79. They are looking really good and healthy though.

My first time with eggs I pulled them when they looked like that and sure enough they hatched two days later. Unfortunately I killed off about half the eggs because I didn't give them enough movement. Its all part of the learning process and one thing that I can promise you is that you will make a lot of mistakes. The good thing though is it seem like you have a good pair that will give you many chances to figure it out.

the day before I ordered, which was july 15th he said he was backed up and it would be 1-2 weeks. then on the 27th I was told he was working on a large batch that should be ready to ship later that week. I understand he builds these by hand so I guess I will just have to wait a lil longer.

that 2 liter bottle thing is kinda intresting, I will have to look at it a bit more and maybe give it a try if I still get nothing on the other trap.

yes, you are correct, this is day 6. I am gonna follow you and leave them in the main tank for another night and see about tommrow, I may still check the eggs tonight with the flashlight just to see though :)
