ocellaris temperament?

How do ocellaris compare to maroons? I recently got rid of my Maroon clowns cuz the female was a real PITA. kicking up sand, moving corals around...etc. will a pair of ocellaris behave similar or are they more mellow?

I had a pair of ocellaris, sold them to a local reefer. The female was evil. Her favorite place to bite was right between the fingers. You could be moving around rocks and she would bite you until you removed your hand out of her tank. She took a mouth sized chunk out of my husbands hand once. Even with all her biting..I kinda miss her. :p

Just a few days ago one of my Ocellaris bit my hand while I was moving some rock around. I have a pair and am not sure what I have gender wise but he/she really suprised me with the nip. I must have invaded their space.

i don't mind the biting...my maroon did that quite a bit especially when they had a clutch of eggs present. what i can't stand is when my maroon knocked over coral COLONIES and even larger rocks when she didn't like them...that and the snow storms from kicking up sand.

has anyone experienced ocellaris knocking over newly added corals/frags?

My ocellaris pair are quite peaceful, but my friend has a pair that are quite aggressive. I can't imagine that any ocellaris would compare to maroons though. My female maroon is something else and she's still quite young.

I must have lucked out, I read all of these experiences with clows being agressive, towards other fish, coral nipping, and even biting the hand that feeds them:eek1: My ocellaris clowns are as peaceful as can be, they've never nipped at any coral or kick up sand, and they certainly have never bit me.:)

This is my first and only pair of clowns I've ever had (they are over a year old now) so I can only atest ocellaris as a peaceful fish.

My Female black O is pretty aggressive. She bites me when I put my hand near her home.. Fasteddie99: Yours aren't old enough to be mean yet :)

oh crap! lol...I have something to look forward too:D

Yup. They tend to get more aggressive when they get older. Although in my growout tanks. If I put my arm in sometimes one with bite me then I end up with a hundred of them biting me. You can just imagine the pain! Not really.. just kidding :) It tickles when they are that small.

Rkelman - that's a pretty funny visual. I can just picture all those tiny clowns saying "There he goes! Get him!"

I've been pretty lucky. My pair (they've been spawning regularly for about a year) is pretty mellow, and they've got eggs nearly all the time. My female will chase away other fish, but has never bitten me. So far.
