Octo Extreme Skimmer KO Club

hey, i want to redo my mesh as my skimmers gunk production has slowed down significantly. whats the preferd type of mesh, pf4, pf4 flatback, or pf5

hey Charlie earlier you said that if you really want/need to see it kick out some stuff, add some Amino acids) what type of AA are you using. I have been looking and reading on them and had no idea that they would improve skimmer production.

I just switched back to my MW with 3 layers of flatback PF4 pulling 38scfh. Very good skimmate so far.

Charlie, +1 for what kind of AA's you are adding?

i add amino acids for the corals, it's suposto help with polyp extension, when i add this the skimmer drops down i'm thinking because it has some type of oil in it. not sure how it helps skimmate?

Yes from what I understand it does help with coral growth, color, and polyp extention. It is used as a food to the tank and would increase skimmate. Just what I understand so far. I am currious to see what others are using and if there is a certain type/brand that does not affect the skimmer by droping the bubble colum after adding.

It does not really "help" the skimate.. its just a protein that is easy for skimmers to remove!
My skimmer goes nuts, just after adding this.. I like the seachem AA because it has the trace elements, I was wanting also..

Thanks for the info. I was kind of thinking of shutting down the skimmer when adding but you have confirmed my suspicion. Thanks:D

I just turn off my return pump after adding marine snow and coral frenzy. I usually leave the skimmer running, since the water level remains constant in the skimmer section, and after at least an hour, I turn the return on and the skimmer starts skimming again.
I guess it skims all of the water in that section and the foam collapses. Then when new water enters it starts skimming. Pretty cool.

Question. Is there supposed to be a small piece inside the pump (Sicce PSK-2500 ) that the white impeller slides into that could come out during cleaning. I know there is a piece like this on the volute side but is there also one down inside the pump?

Here are the pictures of the new skimmer in action......

HURRICONE CAT2.....Skims like a Hurricane Catagory 5!!!

Reefdreamz - I do believe there is supposed to be a small rubber cap on the other end as well. It's been awhile since I removed mine. But I believe it tends to stay stuck down inside the housing. It might still be there.

The is a red bushing for shaft on back side, a larger black on on the outside ( near P/W ).. If that bushing is missing you will get knocking at startup.. possible scaring in motor block..
