Octo Extreme Skimmer KO Club

Is the Octopus extreme 250 too much for a 90g heavy stock? I have tons of coral and fish in this tank along with 15~20g of water in sump. I see that the 250 come with 2 pummps instead of 1 pump like the 200. Shouldnt I get oversize skimmer rather than perfect fit?

Now I was looking at the RS website and they listed octopus 250 at 16"x16" footprint and Octopus 300 at 13x17. I wonder if that information is wrong because the 300 seem smaller than 250???

I have 17"x14" area in sump for skimmer plz advise

This is just me and I like Extremes but I would go wih the Cat-1 !!! I think you would be happer with it.!! If you have room for a 250 I will send you one that I have new in the box.

See what the skimmer will do in very low water, maybe 4-5 inches.

They just dont perform at that leval of water I tried it !

I would go with the 200. I have one on my 75 and it is plenty of skimmer for at least a heavy stocked 150.

I just popped the mesh wheel back on and it is rockin.

Marineduud, are you running Cat1?
I really like mine, its very quiet, and runs well.. it seems smaller than my 200extreme was. ( but 2x the skimmer)

now...is this recommendation for the normal needle wheel that comes with the skimmer or the newer wheels/ppw or even mesh? I just have the normal pin wheel and i was actually running the break point at bottom of cup and actually not impressed with the skimmate. So I guess ill try the 3" below cup and see what happens :)

lurchccd, The 250 skimmers are pretty much like the 200.. 7.5 to 8" of water.
Bubblebreak (water level) should be at first bend in the body.. (@3" below neck)

I have a 160 and have a problem with micro bubbles. There are so many that get into my DT what could be happening? I have done water changes with little help.

I had to choose between it and a Mini BK 200....I chose the Cat2 due to pricing and the success of the Askoll pump. I can't wait until I receive it.....looks as though I'll be skimmer less for about a week though. I'll have to cut feeding a bit and do 2 water changes next week.

Well when you get it in it will make quick work of the exess in the tank ! Make sure to do a good viniger bath to it, It helps alot. My Cat-2 is running a heavy feed 300gal. system!

Just got past the one month mark on my octo x 200. The results are ok but if I was to upgrade to the ppw, what size do I get for the 200?
