when it starts up it clanks loudly and I can see water rising and falling in the air line... if that helps.

That's exactly what I saw too. I'm not sure why it's doing it either, it turns freely and seems to be otherwise fine. The new pinwheel is great though, I get about twice the dark nasty skimmate than I did with the old stock one and now that I've got it to start up on it's own I'm pretty happy.

I ran my pump Horizontal the whole time I had it.. It does help on start-up and increases scfh.. (a few threads back )

Then maybe that's the trick then, and I don't mind if it pulls a little more air :). One thing I noticed is that when you run it this way the hose seems a little longer than it needs to be, did you trim yours down to fit? And the stock silicone hose seems to be a little small and barely fits over the fittings, would a larger hose do much good?

maybe the problem is the airhose?... noticed after re-assembly that i couldn't get the hose re-situated into it's original kink-free postition... the soft tubing really likes to twist and deform. maybe moving to rigid air line tubing would cure this.

Are they sending a different type of hose with the skimmers nowadays?
The one I received is nice and sturdy. Doesn't kink easily at all!

Are these the same pumps that work on the PCI 2000 skimmers? I have this skimmer and need to order a new pump and I think these coralvue needlewheel pumps will work on them?
Which model number do I need to get for the pci 2000 skimmer?

Thanks

No experience with that skimmer but the pump is not a sicce 2500. This pump costs as much as that entire skimmer. Couldn't tell you how much trouble it will be to convert.

Marine Solutions sells the sicce pumps.

Custom Aquatic carries your skimmer & replacement parts. You can likely get a new wheel/mag assembly if that's all that's wrong.

If I were to clean mine daily I'd never get any skimmate. It seems to take many hours (6-8 min.) for my skimmer to produce after a cleaning. I just rinse under the faucet using a bottle-type brush. Don't use any type of cleaner. Is there a better way?

I just use a bottle bush with sponge on end. (sponge really helps). leave it on skimmer (while running clean neck)..
once a week I clean in the sink, it does that 3-4 hrs for it to pick up again after sink cleaning.

If you clean while running , no need to worry about the excess, it will be picked up and carried out of the skimmer very quickly.

That is about 4days of skimmate.

Same here Rook/

update, PPW now starts up after replacing the stock air hose... thanks!
BTW, skimmate production with the PPW is phenomenal compared to the white PW... Feels like a brand new skimmer.

what pump

what pump

I've been following this thread for a while and recently got a deal on a used 200. It came with a Gen X 4100 though instead of the Sicce.

I modded the 4100 and it is ok for now but I would really like to purchase the PSK 2500 since it seems to be what really makes this skimmer work so well.

Would you recommend the Sicce or some other pump?
And if I buy the Sicce does anyone offer it with the PPW included?

Or should I maybe wait on some "new pump" coming along?

I would appreciate any advice before I spend the money.

thanks

There's no way to buy the Sicce with the PPW. The Purple Pinwheel is actually a product made by ATB for their fancy cone skimmers. They just allow it to be sold for "regular" Sicce pumps. So, I'd just find the cheapest place for a Sicce that's plug-and-play for a protein skimmer, and then buy the PPW from Reef Specialty if you don't get the pump through them already.

Just currious how does the skimmer preform with the Gen X 4100? I read all of the thread before I bought my octo extreme 200 and a few people did not like the sicce pumps,"to much noise", I am happy with mine. There is a small humm but it is not louder than my dart return pump.

dgunn - Is it a NW-200 or an Extreme 200? If it's the NW-200 then you'll have to do some research as I don't believe they ever came the the Sicce pump. Thus you'll need to fab a connection.
