Octo Extreme Skimmer KO Club

Two questions concerning my Octo X 200. On the pinwheel assembly, where does the "red bushing" go on the shaft. On the end which enters the Sicce, or the bottom of the shaft? (Switched to the carbon fiber on the advice of you guys, good call)
My skimmer does not want to start when its shut off and I cannot seat the motor completely into the mount , its probably 1/2 way on to prevent from what I think is too much pressure on the shaft. Also, how do you switch wheels on the assembly, is the white thing on the bottom of the pinwheel like a nut? Novice questions I know, sorry, just not one to tinker too much with an already great thing.

The red bushing goes into the bottom of the motor. To switch wheels, grab the magnet with one hand, I use a towel to get a good grip, and then you pull the wheel off with the other hand. It is tough to get off, but it will come off.

Hi,
I am joining to this club. I received my Extreme 300 last week, but i want to knoe if someone can direct me to the most detailed instrucctions to build the mesh mod.

thanks.

Well I was finally able to set up my octo extreme 300 I got in november. There is a lot in this thread about new impellers, pumps, etc. But I just set it and let it go and man does it foam well. I doubt I'll do anything to it but let it run.

Thank you. I already know I'll be happy with it. Although it is hard to maintain a constant water level. I would adjust it, then the cup would overflow. I guess I just have to figure it out.
Its definitely a upgrade over my Remora. And before everyone bashes the remora it is a decent skimmer, but not for a tank my size (75 gal).

I have the octo x 200 and I've been having problems with the pump not starting after i turn it off for cleaning and maintenance. anyone else have this problem?

Very common problem. You may want to rework the mesh or try the pinwheel.

I'm using the pinwheel since i have a very light bio load right now.

Opps, I just re-read you previous post. That is definitely not a common prob with the stock wheel, I have had some issues with the PPW not wanting to start. I would call RS and ask them. It should start right up with the PW. Are you missing any parts, read bushing etc...?

Does anyone have any issues keeping the water in teh skimmer level. It goes up and down overtime and I can't keep the bubbles in the neck of the skimmer

Check to make sure the pump and Impeller are clean. Do the Octopus brand skimmers use a ceramic shaft? Maybe that is broken. Most of the time it isn't the skimmer pump itself, rather it is something to do with the shaft, precipitation, magnet swelling etc.

How old is the skimmer?

I had a problem with a Sicce pump that caused that exact issue. MS took care of it. But is isnt necessarily a bad pump. Is your outlet submerged under water? That can cause the surging like you describe. If not, I would clean pump as suggested and make sure everything is in order internally ... nothing broken, lodged in the pinwheels or inlet/outlet etc. Make sure airline and venturi are clear etc.

Just ordered the X-200, I modded an old ASM 2 or 3 someone gave me (no pump)

with a sicce 2500 and a gatevalve,

and the 2500 is just to much pump. So, looks like I got a spare 2500 :D got a couple of questions for ya,ll, what depth are ya,ll running this skimmer in, is there any need for a gatevalve. Thanx
