Octo Extreme Skimmer KO Club

well my Extreme 300 has been running for a few days, and I'm not very happy with it...

It needs an additional pump, bigger pumps, or something... not even half the body is bubbles......

Im looking at the 5000sss vs the msx250a and would like some feed back on the 5000sss. The big plus for me is I would not have to mod my sump for this skimmer like I would for the msx. What do you guys think of the 5000sss?

Thanks
Rob

Here is a dumb question that may be my problem.

It says Skimmer does best in 8-10inches of water.

So I built a platform in my sump so there is 8" between the bottom of the skimmer and the bottom of the sump. Should I just set the skimmer in the bottom of the sump and keep the water level at about 8"?

My Octo Exterme 300 was the same way.
You have to find the best water level before you can get your best skimming.
This skimmer is a great skimmer and by far the best i've ever bought!
if you look at my avatar there is a pic of what mine does daily!

Well thats good news, at least its me then!

How high is your water level? Do you have the pipe thing open or closed? Did you mesh mod it?

Sorry for all the questions... :wildone:

np on the questions
My water level is at the top of the body right before the skimmer starts to narrow to the neck. So it is about 8inches in water. I did not do the mod as my skimmer from day 1 has been doing some GREAT skimming. I do keep the pipe closed tight as it has never not preformed for me.

and here is a link to the mod.
When i bought the unit it came with the mod parts but i just didn't use them

i'm having trouble with my 160 right now. I switched to a new sump that is taller than my previous one. So now my skimmer sits in deeper water (appx 9") than it did before (7.5-8). When I turn it on it fills up WAY too much with bubbles and water and flows out of the cone and into catch basin. Also, it seems as if it is making either too many bubbles or the bubbles aren't as uniform in flow as they were in my last sump; it just looks more chaotic in the main chamber.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what i should do?

Thanks for the help in advance! And remember, if you don't want to help me, then at least help the fish!
