Octo Extreme Skimmer KO Club

I emailed ATB and looks like they may send me a replacement pin wheel.
I have read a little bit on the red demon, so far all good. I would like to check out the WM reducer, anyone have a link to where to get some information on them. Thanks for the feed back.

I had to switch out the stock pin wheel for the mesh wheel today. what a difference a good pin wheel/ mesh wheel does compared to the stock wheel.

i received the more rigid ppw as well. when installed i always had startup issues & it tore up as well. still waiting on red demon will post on it when i receive

Holy Cow man, a 350? Is that a Marlin in your tank? LOL Does that have 3 sicces? I have the 200 with a bb3000 on my 125 decently stock and the skimmer stays caught up. I am slowly adding fish as I upgraded from a 75, but you should be able to use that skimmer for your next 3 upgrades. Congrats bro.

would you spend the money on the reducer and new pinwheels or just buy a BB5000 for a MSX250?

I have an Octo X 300 and I put 2 Bubble blaster 5ks on it. It is running wide open ( i took the wedge pipe off) and skims like no tomorrow. I am going to get the extended neck soon to help out.

with the 250 I would go with either 1 5k or 2 3k's (better option)

Thats a $400 purchase. For that i would buy a skimmer with the askoll, i was thinking of a cheaper upgrade

WOW, do you have a camera? Or I could just drive to Raleigh and have a look. LOL That sounds like one ell of a combo.

Just got my octox 200 in and am breaking it in can anyone post some pics of where my water line should be at ?

hey everyone,
i bought an octo extreme 200 new and have been running it all stock in my new 90g setup for 5 weeks now...the tank was started with 100lbs marco dry rock and 25 lbs live rock and now has 4 fish. its running in 9 inches of water and i have the water level set inside at a 1/4 inch above where the collection cup starts. it has a good head of foam but doesnt spill over. ive tried adjusting it higher but then the skimate is very very wet. is it still breaking in? thanks

Has anyone tried a mouse pad under the skimmer to try to reduce the noise a bit? Do not get the wrong idea it is not very loud but I had it turned off today to give it a good cleaning and when I turned it on I could hear a slight hum. If any one has tried this does it help at all, do I need to worry about it breaking down after a bit? Either way I am able to live with it, the skimmer is top notch IMO. Thanks

Same here , any ideas ?

I have had my Octo Extreme 200 running for about 3 months. The most valuable info I have pulled out of this thread is to remove the B pipe and turn the elbow horizontally to reduce back pressure and then turn the air adjustment pipe A to just short of the "closed" setting. Just watch the bubble head and turn the pipe until the head of bubbles is just even with the top of the collection cup. You may need to adjust this a couple of times to get just the right amount of wet skimate vs. having the skimmer overflow. These two changes improved the performance considerable with the stock equipment.

5wk's should be broke-in.
the 200extreme was the best skimmer for the money that I have ever owned (15-20 skimmers)

For a starting point.."water level" should be below cup (@first bend in body) above that will be fine bubbles that turn into larger bubbles. (small bubbles should go no more than @ 1/3 into neck) then larger bubbles break just below the top, creating a foam out of DOC's that is pushed over as it builds up.

"water level" being the point at which small bubbles break away. (sounds like you have it set high)

If water level is set too high, then turbulence prevent protiens from building in the head of the skimmer and they are washed back out of skimmer body.

thanks for the help. i just lowered the level inside to where the cup attaches and ill see what happens. im pretty sure the one i have is the one with the new neck design.
