So I now have this little octo that a friend says is a vulgaris octopus. Im going to keep him and have a good understanding of what he needs, but can't get a straight answer on the best temp for him. I've read everything from 68 to 78..
Thanks for the help, and I'll post pics once he becomes a little less shy.

Nice I found and octopus in a coral I got from Australia myself they are fun and great to have as long as you know how to keep them.

They can reach 24-36 inches in length.
Hopefully your tank is big enough to handle this.

And hopefully if it ever gets scared and releases it's ink, that will not be too toxic in an aquarium.
Their ink is toxic in high concentrations.

Some sites are saying they only live 12-18 months.

Definitely pretty cool though.

One thing I learned about octopi (?) from a recent trip to the local aquarium is that they can get bored. As I am sure you are aware they are very smart and because of this, just like us, if they sit around all day with nothing to to they can get into trouble. Think "idle hands are the devils playground".

Anyway, the aquarium put what looked like baby toys in their octopus tank for the little guy to play with. They had a ball, and a few other items in there so he would consume his time playing, instead of trying to escape.

Just thought that was kind of cool and wanted to share. Maybe give him a ball to play with and see if he comes out.

kinda scary that you could get an octo as a hitchhiker. them and mantis shrimp would probably be the worst additions to my tank.... would be a really cool species only tank though

I got a neon dottyback in some live rock.. Not as cool as an octo, but it's cool to find hitchhikers.

Wow, old thread but still on first page. The octo stayed that size and lived 6-7 months. After that I raised 14 cuttlefish until switching to frozen and loosing all of them. Keeping cephs is an awesome experience. I'm thinking about doing an octo in the 125 after I move.

Since my cuttles didn't make it to adulthood I'm not the best person to answer that.
I really just loved watching my octo. His tank was in my bedroom, and I would look over and see him watching me. Not sure who watched who more. When I would use the feeding stick, he would wrap his arms around the stick and try to pull it away. It was just neat being able to interact with such a awesome animal.

The cuttle fish may have surprised me, but the weekly shipment of mysis, and taking a half hour twice a day to make sure each baby got fed is more than I want to deal with right now.
